Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Sadly I think it's just political. Polling must be telling the WH it's a win when they are surrounded by losses. Those losing jobs don't matter in the calculus.

As you point out a science driven policy would at least account for naturally acquired immunity.

A cost/benefit analysis would consider staffing impact on a crucial industry in a healthcare crisis; particularly when there are already shortages and people leaving the profession for other reasons.
I'm inclined to agree with the political angle.

When she refuses the flu vaccine, shecwears a mask during flu season. There is no middle ground for covid.

The fallout could be profound.

I am watching in amazement the demise of America. That is not hyperbole. Our medical system, military, police and private enterprise areunder assault. Feels like a purge. I took the vac and now thinking why such an authoritarian push? I don't get it.

Just like the 911 responders like police in NYC are thrown under the bus. This is sinister.

Prayers to your family and for our nation.

Just found out last night my Dad has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Life is getting tough for everybody
I am so sorry to learn this about your father. I pray for you and your family.

not sure they can avoid the Federal employee/contractor mandate.

This is the real issue with massive legislation like BBB - it creates a dependence on Federal $ by law then uses that dependence to require whatever those current power holders want.
They can't. The CMS rule on facilities is exempt from the OSHA decision.

that's what I thought - same for my employer - we take so much Federal money that even if we could argue the Medical enterprise (Medicare/Medicaid) was separate from the academic one so only our HC workers were under the mandate the reality is we take a ton of NSF and NIH and other agency money so the whole campus is under the Federal employee/contractor mandate rather than the OSHA one.

I just wasn't sure if any state had successfully challenged the Federal employee/contractor Executive Order.

Florida is suing against the Medicare one so we will see what happens

Never ends

"Fauci added during the White House briefing Friday that he didn’t believe the U.S. would ever completely eliminate new cases of COVID-19 but that federal officials wanted to gain control over the virus and accept it as an endemic ailment. When pressed to say what number of daily cases would be tolerable, Fauci said he couldn’t name a figure but that it was much lower than the current rates of new cases."

This along with him saying "fully vaccinated" now means you've had the booster.
Almost 2 years in and they still cant give us a metric. That more than anything else should prove this isnt about science.

It's like that like meme about 5.

The next step after they place Covid on the acceptable scale is to make everything unacceptable. You will no longer be allowed to be sick.

I am willing to bet that we will see the marginalization of the unvaxxed increased.

Welp. McMom may be terminated if her religious exemption isn't "approved" by her hospital. I guess not firing people for their religious beliefs is against the law only when blackmail with Medicare money isn't in play.
Per called staff meeting at our hospital today, "religious exemptions" are going to be very lenient and have yet to be denied in court. Medical exemptions look promising, too. They are looking into naturally-acquired immunity as an exemption.

What does a medical exemption take? Just getting a doctor to sign a form saying my patient doesnt need to take this vaccine? Or does it need to say they believe the vaccine is more dangerous?

Not sure, but likely some reason for concern about the risk of side effects or evidence of immunity, making the therapeutic an unnecessary procedure.

@McDad I have also been advised that no one should resign. Make them terminate her. Legally, that will give her much stronger standing if the ruling is reversed, and she could be owed back pay.

Not sure how the mandate impacts UE pay but getting terminated qualifies but quitting doesn't (as I understand it)

From what I'm hearing, I really think the whole shebang is going to be rejected. It's glaringly obvious the disaster that would result, and it would be political suicide for the Dems.

Kudos to all those who have bravely stood up and spoken out in the face of adversity. Your voices are being heard!

Hiding behind “religion” as an exemption from a public health matter is the most American thing ever conceived. I would be more impressed if people actually just came out and said what they’re really not getting vaccinated for… political identity. The insincerity is weak, but I guess most view it as necessary because most unvaccinated can’t use logic to justify their decision.

If Trump had been re-elected, the vaccine resistance would have been coming from the left AND it would have had the media behind it.
