Were some calls mistakes, of course; but, overall, Banks has called pretty good games all year. That's not Banks' play call whenever Beasley is on skates most of the night, or going for a ride, or getting hurdled...Jeremy Banks was even taken for a ride a couple of times by Levis, couldn't bring him down. NO EXCUSE for the two dropped INTs, much less hinting at Banks' game plan. Gotta make tackles, man...blocking and tackling are the two most absolute pillars of the game...we got to tackle better, and get off blocks better; yes, other parts need fixed or tuned, but tackling and shedding blocks by LBs and Safeties...to me, that's what jumps off the screen.
I've been extremely pleased with Banks all year. There is no other way to describe last Saturday's defensive performance than pathetic. Surely I don't need to go drag out statistics. The question is where do we place blame? You, McGill and others seem to think it was mostly on the players. While I do believe the players have some of the blame, I think Banks had a poor showing. Does that mean I want him fired (that's usually the response from some when you are slightly critical of a coach)? Hell no.
All I know is when we set back and played zone and rushed 3-4, we consistently gave up huge chunk plays. Time and time again allowed big play after big play. When we rushed 5 or more we time and time again (I realize that was very few), good things happened most of the time.
