So if the dudes make the two easy ints that they were put in the right place to make, or if they had made several third down tackles they were put in the right place to make..then we are sitting here discussing a 62ish-20ish blowout instead of bitching at Tim Banks because those guys did not make those plays...that is an execution problem, not a game plan problem.

I get the frustration, but after watching the game again I feel differently than you. The plan was to make Levis have to execute 30 plays instead of four or five. Knowing Levis and his proclivitie to be impatient and stupid, it was a good idea and if those guys make the Ints and tackles they were put in position to make, it would have borne good fruit.

The fourth and 24 was converted because one player blew his assignment...he didn't see Cummings.

Did I say the players didn't share fault?

They ran 99 plays. The only time we stopped them is when we were aggressive on D. We played 99% of the game in a zone that we didn't cover. The 1% they played aggressive they were successful.

It's OK for a coach to have a bad game. I am one to believe the blame for the pathetic showing on defense should be shared between the coaches and the players. You seem to believe the blame only lies at the players feet.

Agree with most, McGill; except, the 4th down call was a mistake, horrible play call...knew it the moment I saw it. We, as Vol fans, should NEVER want to see a prevent, or anything that resembles it, again...blown assignment or not.

Also...you know we were talking Memphis loss earlier...yes, it's the worst loss, meaning embarrassing, NEVER should have happened, worst loss in that sense; but, that loss pales in comparison to 2001 SEC Championship. Worst loss, meaning DEVASTATING...meaning, we are still not over it in my mind, 20 years later.

Then, just a bit later, to put the game away, he brought more. He learned from that 4th and 24 mistake. What I like about him, his adjustments...also, his blitzes and stunts hit more times than not, and come at precise moments.
Exactly. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. He finally realized his defense wasn't stopping anything with the base defense, rushing 3-4 and dropping the rest in zone coverage. I firmly belive they would have easily scored again if he hadn't turned up the heat. He blitzed every play after that 4 and 24 conversion.

Some posters get highly offended if you offer the slightest bit of criticism. Banks had his worst game since he's been here. I bet he'd agree.

Or he might pick one of the games we actually lost as his worst....

Were some calls mistakes, of course; but, overall, Banks has called pretty good games all year. That's not Banks' play call whenever Beasley is on skates most of the night, or going for a ride, or getting hurdled...Jeremy Banks was even taken for a ride a couple of times by Levis, couldn't bring him down. NO EXCUSE for the two dropped INTs, much less hinting at Banks' game plan. Gotta make tackles, man...blocking and tackling are the two most absolute pillars of the game...we got to tackle better, and get off blocks better; yes, other parts need fixed or tuned, but tackling and shedding blocks by LBs and Safeties...to me, that's what jumps off the screen.

In its history, Tennessee has been involved in 16 contests in which the Vols’ opponent was ranked No. 1 in the country in the AP Poll. UT has a 2-14* all-time record when playing the nation’s AP top-ranked team. *UT also lost to Florida in 1997, when the Gators were No. 1 in the Coaches Poll. The Vols’ two victories against a No. 1 team have come against Southeastern Conference foes. Tennessee, ranked No. 13, edged LSU 14-13 on Nov. 7, 1959, in Knoxville, to knock the Tigers out of the top spot. On Sept. 28, 1985, the Vols, 0-0-1 and unranked at the time, soundly defeated top-rated Auburn 38-20 in Knoxville. The 1985 Vols went on to win the SEC Championship and finish No. 4 nationally in all polls.

It's been a while. Time for the 1985 Ghosts to show up!

BTW.Screw Bama. 9X

Hell of a post. The 2009 game destroyed me. That felt like one of the toughest losses of my life at the time. Little did i know we were all about to learn more than we ever wanted to about losing.

I'm tired of it. Winning is too good. Call me greedy. But its time to believe in possibilities. Could we get kicked in the groin again? Sure. No doubt. The cup stays in place until we're holding the trophy. But for this week? We're playing with house money. Running on fumes and good old fashioned momentum. Who knows what these players are capable of? They continue to surprise in a positive way. Defense needs to tackle better. Offense has to keep efficient.

For one game, we have to believe we belong there. From now on, Neyland Stadium is hostile territory where dreams go to die. Its the snake pit! We showed it against Ole Miss. The crowd matters and finally gets another chance to impose their will on a big stage. Winning the KY game was huge because it left us all inspired and hopeful and proud and we're gonna be loud as hell. Because we all know the Vols are dangerous too. We are the edge the team needs to do it. Bring it #1. Lets put that shiny ranking to the test.

Go big orange forever

What I said is still true. They were put in position to make plays and didn't make them.

They make those plays, especially the two dropped easy interceptions and you are not sitting here calling it a horrible game plan...and they don't run 99 plays.

Seems to be plain to see to me 🤷‍♂️

I believe Beasley will get better, he can be a good LB, I think...we HAVE TO get depth there! I think that will help Beasley a lot. Page plays a bit, but Beasley and Banks go pretty much the whole way...losing Mitchell was a huge loss.

Shedding blocks and tackling; but, the glare that's most apparent: personnel at the LB and S position. Depth at LB, and replacements for Flowers and McCollough. Love them both as loyal Vols, and I truly believe they play as hard as they can, but...
