Not sure I’d argue against Peyton Manning on football knowledge but ok. I don’t really care, was just sharing what the GOAT said.

Appears you mischaracterized what he said. Below from @VolGee4 is what Manning said about it. Which is exactly what I said, it gives you more options and allows you to see the field.

I don’t think he said ball security. He specifically said, “because you can see the ball.” To me, that meant you had more options out of the gun along with ball security.

“Along with ball security”, got it.
No one goes out of the shotgun for “ball security” doesn’t even make sense.

A direct under center snap is more about ball security. Less error in the ball deviating from its path. A snap to a shotgun QB can be botched in many different ways. So again, going out of the shotgun is not about “Ball Security”

But keep spewing your nonsense. You obviously haven’t played the game at a competitive level if you think a direct under center hand to hand exchange is less secure than a snap from a center that has to travel a couple of yards before it is touched.

Lane walked into a stud QB recruited by the previous staff….. we, unfortunately, are not as lucky.

Kaidon Salter and Bailey seemed like good candidates. I'm not buying excuses, Lane is a mid upper tier coach and we'd be lucky to have him back. Otherwise we're stuck with Heupel esque hires.

Dude stared this job in the eyes. And took a chance. Won 12 games at UCF, UCF! Won a Heistman, and a Nat.

All he's done is win.

I’m not saying I loved the JH hire at the time but we have no idea what he could be yet. Lane walked into a decent roster (Luke recruited well) and a day one QB. You can win a lot of games with a good QB. Saban even went 6-6 his first season. Let’s let the man work before saying he isn’t a good coach.

Better resume than Dooley. Hiring Dooley is the big mistake that you cannot just chalk up to bad luck; he had no business even being on the shortlist for HC at UT.

You do know that Heupel kicked his a$$ at their previous stop with very similar recruiting classes…. Salter got kicked out of school and Bailey has been unable to win the job…

You could argue this is a larger culture problem, but I’d love to know how many HC’s let a player get kicked off the team for WEED. In the year 2021. It’s asinine.

Given the track record of players that transfer out, I doubt they contribute much anywhere else.

If Bailey chooses the right school, I think he will be fine.

The other two, I'm not so sure.

Beckwith has been learning RB, if transfers and goes elsewhere, and moves back to WR or something, then he may have to relearn that position again, so that may take another year of eligibility off. (I don't think Beck will be a RB, I think wherever he transfers to, they will move him)

Luckily for Whitehead he has played both positions his whole life, so he will also have an easier time. Poor Beckwith man.

I’ve heard it was more than just weed…. He never learned his lesson after multiple opportunities.

I can see it for a team like us that is always in shotgun.

One of the dumbest things I remember Butch doing was in a Florida game when Worley got hurt. Put Dobbs, who had never taken snaps under center, under center in our end zone and asked him to handoff to a freshman Jalen Hurd. Result was a fumble that was recovered for either a TD or a safety.

I may have messed up the details because it was years ago, but it was something like that.

Even then, if Wilcox had stuck around as DC, we would've been a force in that 2012 season.

Maybe on 2012, but it’s hard to say with the mentality those teams seemed to have. That 2011 UK loss just proved that we were riddled with losers/quitters from the HC down.

The man did have good assistants though. I’ll give him that, but that’s about it.

I’ll let him work and see what he can do, of course. I stayed in on Butch way too damn long when it was clear from year 1 that he was a bad coach.

Right now Heupel has a few positives to pull but his team is undisciplined, he started the wrong QB, didn’t challenge in the Pitt game among a few other questionable coaching decisions. Not saying he’s crap but I am saying it doesn’t look great early.

I think the assault & battery that went with WEED was part of the problem. Those guys didn't just get caught with weed, they broke into someone's room and stole.

There is factual evidence that you have to hold blocks longer if you are in the gun.
Agree. To me, it just never made sense to voluntarily move the ball approx 2 yds further behind the los for a handoff or 4yds for a sneak. Plus if it's a handoff, the back has no forward momentum.

I like everything that you get from shotgun primary offenses...especially if you want to use RPOs and pass more.

That said you need to spend some time under center, and I'd say it's smart just to pencil in 5 to 10 snaps a game doing it...and not always in short yardage, just to give teams that wrinkle.
