It’s actually a space thing.

It’s been proven that the 1 yd line in pro football is one of the hardest yards to gain. Plus anything within the 5 yd line.

Backing off and going from the shotgun gives you more room to work with. The issue is you have to take the chance of losing yardage but you open up your playbook more to gain that yardage.

There is very little you can do under center that defenses have to worry about.

I grew up w an old school mentality but if your center and guards aren’t elite compared to their interior line under center can not work a lot. That space helps you pick a lane if someone up front gets beat or they blitz a particular gap

Peyton was quoted a week or so ago that it was 100% a ball security thing.

Man, I was so excited about Bailey, Beckwith, Wideman, and Whitehead, and somehow none of them are ever going to contribute here.

If you can’t get on the field of this team, then you aren’t SEC material, or the coaches are making unforgivable mistakes.

At this point I’ll take a lower rated class or two if the coaches can just find long term contributors because it will be more beneficial than these well known guys who never do anything here.

Quoting yourself now? Do you @ yourself on Twitter, too.

Lane can suck it.

I don't @ myself but I do quote myself often.

Lane could have brought us back and still could if it's not too far gone in 5 years. It's Kiffin or to the graveyard with the program, I know the choice we will make though.

I wondered if that wasn’t the deal with him. I’m one of the few that actually liked his RB film better than his LB film. He seemed to be able to get in the right place to make the play at LB, but didn’t seem to hit with much pop. Maybe he just doesn’t like to hit.

I also wonder if it isn’t a similar deal with Beckwith. He always struck me as somebody that needed to embrace that flex tight end role. Then again, he may have hands of stone for all I know.

You hit on the point I have made for the last decade on here - natural instincts. Probably a less than 10% hit rate on conversions from one side of the ball to the other in terms of equal performance upside. Looks like Banks may be an exception. However, he likes to hit people, has the LB body/quickness and it may have been his natural position all along.

I don't understand guys who are unwilling to try it when buried on the depth chart of a mediocre to bad team unless they know they will never be a pro and just want to go easier on their bodies and get the degree. I have no idea with Beckwith and it appears two coaching staffs don't either. Cornbread had him convert to RB, then only used him a game or two. His body type and offense focus in HS screams joker TE to me unless he has the bad hands.

I wonder why bc I don’t remember a lot of fumbles in those situations.

Don't either. The stats will tell the story, but I thing QB/C nerves and lack of mobility of some QB's causes teams to use the gun.

It is far easier to wedge block when under center with maulers. If your O-line are not maulers, you can get pushed back easier. Play calls like sneaks or no fake direct hand offs depend on power. QB's with mobility, will take a step back and then pick the gap they want with both O-line types if going from under center.

Hands aren’t his issue. It is physicality that is his issue and what is keeping him off the field.

Kiffin already put one of our feet in the grave. Don't need him here to finish the job. I do hope he beats Bama this weekend.

I like to see UT in Bama, UGA, & UF games, but this Mizzou game will probably be one of our biggest games, based on competition level and where we're at overall. This game should be a good indicator of what the scheme is capable of against similar talent. It is probably a great game to see how well the team is progressing. If we can knock out the penalties and clean up some of the execution mistakes, we can win by a 2-3 TDs.

The below quote is from a Facebook friend who is a Clemson fan, right before jj took matters into his own hands. October 1st is #uaintjj Day, now and forever.

OMG. I'm sooo sorry! We were watching while tailgating.....we are up next!
Still one of the best receptions I’ve seen. I mean he got murdered on the play and still held on to the ball

Which is why I said I thought joker (move type) TE. Those guys rarely block other than like WR's. The just catch balls and take advantage of match-ups. Seems like he could dominate safeties and LB's with his size, jumping ability and speed. If the previous staff and this one were trying to make a H-back/TE or Rook out of him, forget it if he will not get physical. Probably not a good idea to spend time on him. Encourage him to go to the portal to free up a spot.
