I had that thought too over the weekend. Most of these young guys probably idolized him and spent years trying to craft their game and competitiveness after him. Whoever that was the beat Rahm yesterday just kind of walking around like "no big deal"...I was like damn that's some cold-blooded nerves of steel.
scottie sheffler (sp?). was injured and hasn't played a lot, i think that's him, but to a man, most of the guys on that team think a whole lot of him as a golfer. turns out they were right.

i think Rory hit it on the head though, for a long, long time the Ryder cup has always meant more to the Euros. probably still does. but i think now, this group, with the way they compete with each other, and have for so long, they're wired similarly, and it matters to be good in the Ryder cup. so the fact that mindset has changed, or is changing, is probalby good for the American team going forward. i hope so anyway, that's some fun golf to watch....much better than stroke play.

SMH This isn’t too “too far” IMO, perfect dose of arse chewing. He obviously has the respect of the kid because he kept eye contact and said “yes sir.”

Agreed...and what the kid did was so stupid. (1) It shouldn't be a penalty, but (2) because it is he absolutely deserved the reaction he received.

I don't think it's too far. I think he cut it right before the message would be diluted.

But with that, I hope that at some point today or tomorrow if he hasn't already, he sits down with the young man and lifts him up as well.

I don't think Berger had won a tournament yet. Which makes it more impressive

Edit: sorry thought it was Berger but it was Scheffler

Why do you think that? It would play a role if I was getting recruited….. comparing four-five schools I am interested…. Not knowing what was coming would definitely knock against that school.
I could be wrong, but I think we've seen a few people on here, etc saying it really wasn't a pressing issue.

Yeah, watching this season unfold it seems like Heupel was coaching his style more than his team. In the case of BGSU and Pitt, he moved to coaching the team he has. In TTU he just unloaded. In the Florida game it looked more like he was coaching his team to try to fit his style. I think he's showing good progression and not being stubborn.
there's what you want to do, what you think you can do, and then, what you do.

have to adjust along the way, so far, i think he's done that. i didn't ever get the feeling, except in that final drive of the 1st half, that we actually did what HE WANTED to do. we spent most of the game dealing with what we could do.....

the O line is ok, and they'll have easier match ups as get in to the season. but the QB's have to be more accurate, and better in the pocket as far as awareness goes. they don't have a ton of time to survey, the pocket closes pretty quick.

anyway, there's winnable games left. if we can beat Missouri, i think you can get to 5 relatively safely. Vandy, USA, and USCe are not very good, and could/should all be w's.

if that plays out, then you have to look at Ole Miss and UK as the obstacles to a bowl eligible team. but let's get past the nooner in columbia first.

This is the kind of post that is just normal operating procedure here in the RF with 17likes

The 18 of you obviously are only seeing what you want to see. You are forgetting about 9 dang players on a punt return without a damn returner at all, you are forgetting about penalty after penalty after penalty, you are ignoring a past resume of extreme penalties, you are forgetting about a delay of game backbreaking penalty on 4th down.

this is the honeymoon period where posters refuse to see bad news when it smacks them in the face

First big game the team played all year. I would be worried if CJH didn’t say hey those coaching errors were on me after the game. But guess what he did, he acknowledged those things and said the staff will get better.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Penalties. There weren’t nearly as many back breaking penalties against Florida. So I don’t know what you are talking about there.

Also, if our kicker hits the Field Goal he has been hitting we are tied with Florida at Halftime. If Jimmy Calloway catches the pass on 4th and 5 and gets the first down we score and keep the game within 1 score.

Show me a Jeremy Pruitt team that would of even of had a breath of a chance against the Florida team that just beat us… I’ll wait.

Not to mention our defense held Florida to less rushing yards than Alabama did. We fix our back end at the safety position as well as execute when we are supposed to and that game looks a lot better.

But, you’ll never admit that this team looks 100% different than last year because it is against your Agenda.

yeah. he's already shown here to put an emphasis on it. we ran the ball, really well at times, against FL. went to it solely against BGSU, and ran ok against Pitt.

i think the thing holding our run game back right now is the inconsistency in the passing game, specifically the long ball. i think he'd like to go for shock plays about 5-6 times a game and hit on 4 minimum. do that, and it opens a lot of things for the run game.

right now, we're on the one dimensional side of things. but, if they do get any better from the pocket, use the tempo, i expect the RB's to do well, and probably get some big runs along the way.

long story short...pass to set up the run, that's where he wants to get to, imo

Not disagreeing. However, if it were me with the roster and talent we have today, I would be doing the opposite because I have a QB that needs it to be that way to be effective. One of the most prolific offenses in the NFL is run by the Titans. People can argue with that statement all they want, but since Tannehill started running the O, they have been near the top in many categories with Henry destroying defenses in the second half after they have worn them down in the first. They run first and go play action a lot. Since we have two good TE's and a run first style O-line, we might want to not reinvent the wheel and do it somewhat like that in our approach using Heup's scheme. It will give more time for the D to rest as well. JMO.

Who is stating that 9-3 is the goal that we want our program to achieve?
That’s Mark Richt status right there which I would take in a heartbeat (the record, not Richt himself). I don’t hold that to Heupel right now but it should be an expectation in the not too distant future, say at least within 4-5 yrs. 8-4 was considered a fail under Fulmer, 7-5 we were making our next HC candidate lists. 7-5 and we’re celebrating in the streets these days.

Agree.

Their individual play in the Ryder Cup is now a major consideration for HOF status as well. It did not factor in much before the internationals' game caught up.

Doesn't matter what the fans want. Heupel is working with a safety net because of the impending sanctions. When we get popped by the NCAA, whatever it is, that time will automatically be added to the end Heupel's contract. He will be given enough time to get this thing turned around.

Goodness I hope you are right!

My operating premise is that any middle tier coach can win at least 60% of their ballgames at Tennessee, given time. I’d like try that on for a change, verses endlessly watching rebuilds and coaching searches.

Bill C's SP+ rankings

1. Georgia
2. Alabama
4. Florida
13. Ole Miss
21. Pittsburgh
32. Tennessee
46. Kentucky
52. Missouri
86. South Carolina
107. South Alabama
109. Bowling Green
125. Vanderbilt

Let's handle business these next two weeks. I really feel like we can build some momentum that will help recruiting and developing this team. Could be a pivotal season if Heupel can get the guys focused for this week and next.

Typical response from a beta that never played a lick of sports.
He did play multiple sports, including college football. He's also a cancer survivor. I don't think he's a "beta."

A 1982 Stanford University graduate, Rod Gilmore also holds the distinction of earning a law degree from the University of California at Berkeley and being an inductee into the Oakland Babe Ruth Baseball Hall Of Fame. Meanwhile Gilmore is active with multiple bar associations, while keeping up a busy dual career as an attorney and a prolific college football analyst.

He is a 1982 graduate of Stanford University, where he played defensive back for three years and received his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1986. He was part of the Stanford team that was involved in The Play, a last-second kickoff return by the University of California Golden Bears to defeat Stanford on November 20, 1982.

On August 15, 2016, it was made public that Gilmore had been diagnosed with blood cancer.

Are we done with offense for this class? I would think we would be done with that side except for transfers. I bet they are planning on taking some OL and a QB or two from the portal.

Ole Miss runs the ball about 48 times per game… I believe they were first in rushing last year in the SEC and are just behind Florida this season. Run defense will be critical in that one and have to get some turnovers as well when Jeff Lebby calls a few deep shots as he likes to do. I think they can upset The Tide this year. They can run very well and attack deep which is weakness for Bama

Sheffler was a great pick by Stricker even though he has never won a tournament. He's been close. But, Sheffler is known as one of the best ball strikers on tour. Perfect pairing with Bryson.

Best thing for the Vols is getting wins the next two weeks… without any major injuries. Then going into the Ole Miss game 4-2 at Neyland which I’d figure would get the stadium near capacity and make it a 8ET kick or so. Really need some wins next two weeks

Would be great. I think we split these next two games though. Mizzou will be tough. I think we get USC. I think we lose to Ole Miss and Bama and sit at 3-5. I think this board melts down, laments Heupel, etc etc.

Then I think we beat Kentucky, S. Alabama and Vandy and get to a bowl game.
