Still basking in the glow of the Ryder Cup curb stomping by the USA team. Euros will not recover from that anytime soon. USA team is loaded for years to come with young guns who know how to compete and win at a high level team events like this. The Euros are not nearly as well stocked and the Americans now care about what happens in the RC. Stricker should have a lifetime appointment as Captain.

Vol football just needs to take notes from one of the nicest guys on the planet and his book of success. Find the best you can and make them Vols. Blend them together and make them into a cohesive unit such that each has the other's back and nobody wants to do something selfish or stupid that hurts his teammates. That's when things start getting good again.

How many examples are there of college programs that wandered the wilderness and came back to prominence?

From the best, to bad for a long time (1-2 decades), to the best again.

The only program I can think of is Alabama. From Bear to abyss to Saban. But didn't they have decent seasons in the middle?

If you consider winning a National championship under Stallings decent

That, and have players that have an average ranking of top ten... That would work.

Feels sacrilege but I just do not care about the NFL. College football is 1000x better.

Man. I’m the opposite. All I used to care about was football Saturdays. Our last 15 years has sapped that enthusiasm. I still love watching the Vols, but I don’t watch any other college ball. I watch Thursday night football, red zone all day Sunday, Sunday night football, and Monday night football. Especially on a day like today. So many good games.

I was spoiled growing up with this team in the 1990s.

Unfortunately that is a long time ago.

Tennessee is no longer rivals with Florida, Georgia or Alabama. We’re glorified scrimmages to those teams.

Tennessee’s new rivals are Mizzou, Kentucky, and South Carolina.

Our peak is 9 wins a season.

Hard pill to swallow but very likely the world we live in.

Hate on me all you want but you know it’s true.
Sure , bet there were Bama fans just like you when Shula and their other mediocre coaches between Bear and Nick were coaching the tide.

Eh.. They're still kinda wandering really. Better example is OU before Stoops got there 20 years ago

They were mediocre from the early 80s until the early 2000s, then won a national title. Now they’re back to wandering.

Oklahoma is also a good answer.

Edit: we’ve also kind of done this before. Unfortunately we don’t have a Johnny Majors waiting in the wings.

I'd prefer for this to be one of those things that you know... But never, ever, talk about out loud, k?

QB helps but you have to have a line, rb, and receivers. That was on display last night. We are miles away from competing with AL, GA, and FL. We are more than a QB from competing with them. With NIL it's going to take a bunch of money to lure and keep great players here. Money that may not be around.

Our RB is fine. Our OL may need a little upgrade, but it’s not insurmountable. I agree that a really good QB changes a whole lot for us.

Yep - got to have the talent. You get it by meeting their expectations for a school and program with a lot of factors we talk about on here. Heup knows those factors and more. So, give him what he needs including time and it will get much better. Just like Barnes, just like Voltello. JMO.
