we really just need some speed upgrades.

And perhaps a dynamjc qb.

We need three quality recruiting classes to begin to show a pulse

Heupel started late so he hasn’t even recruited a class of his own. I’m sure our fans will give him a measure of grace for this if it takes longer than year 3 to show progress. lol

after the crap show last three years, where i was ready to turn my vol card in. yeah he gets some grace

I’m in no way comparing our qbs to Aaron Rodgers but watching him drop passes in to receivers 50 yards down the field in stride like a handoff is incredibly impressive. (For the record I hate the packers but respect the qb play)

Yeah and it’ll start with the ‘23 class because this ‘22 class is pretty mediocre and we don’t have the momentum with anyone significant to change that.

Nolan, maybe, if we land him.

I like Nichols, Jackson, and Phillips but I think he ends up elsewhere. Foley might be decent. But the rest of the class is meh.

Anyone know how many players We lose after the season? The 7 transfer spots won’t help the numbers because we would just be trading players. I know we hopefully will be upgrading but we will still be low on numbers. Will we even get close to 80 for next year?

He’s a NFL Hall of Famer. Don’t see many of those in college.

I was spoiled growing up with this team in the 1990s.

Unfortunately that is a long time ago.

Tennessee is no longer rivals with Florida, Georgia or Alabama. We’re glorified scrimmages to those teams.

Tennessee’s new rivals are Mizzou, Kentucky, and South Carolina.

Our peak is 9 wins a season.

Hard pill to swallow but very likely the world we live in.

Hate on me all you want but you know it’s true.

Bingo

Been saying this for a few years now

Things got out of control in the 4th after Hooker and Coop got hurt, but we definitely showed a pulse yesterday. Make a FG and don’t drop an easy TD on 4th and 5, totally different game.

Yeah I mean be a threat to win the East. Agreed we definitely show some fight on the field.

I just think it will be a while before we have a deep and talented enough roster than can go wire to wire in a full season, withstanding in-game fatigue and the inevitable attrition through injury that happens to every team.

Butch’s best teams never got that deep. It takes a long time…

It is true. The question is it permanent? It was criminal what the past administration did to this program. They killed it, dug a hole, buried it, then built a pyramid on top of it. I said it would take a bunch of money to get it back. With each colossal failure of a hire, the price went up. I don't know if there is enough money to resurrect it.

I swallowed this pill in 2017, when Georgia walked into Neyland and shut us out. That crushed me after I spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons thinking we were on the cusp of coming back.

Since then I’ve come to believe we can come back, we are just a program that needs coaching stability.

Any old coach can walk into LSU, Bama, UF, Texas A&M, or UGA and get them to 10 wins and hunting for titles. It’s clear that’s not the case for Tennessee otherwise we would have experienced it the last ~13 years.

With that said, we were great when we had year in and year out stability throughout the 80s and 90s. That comes with time and patience. They gave Majors a ridiculously long leash, and it paid off big time. Hope we do the same with Heupel.

All it takes is the right QB.

You’re right about Florida. Us old hands know that the Florida “rivalry” was always a mere product of a particular moment, when we were the only elite teams in the conference. Sure, it lingered for a few years, but I think now people can see that it was a rivalry of convenience.

Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, and Vandy are our rivals. History and geography: that’s what makes it real. We suck at football right now, but we don’t suck at everything. Also, we won’t suck at football forever, and they won’t be good forever. But those rivalries will remain, across sports.

Mizzou and South Carolina aren’t rivals. They arguably shouldn’t even be in the conference.

QB helps but you have to have a line, rb, and receivers. That was on display last night. We are miles away from competing with AL, GA, and FL. We are more than a QB from competing with them. With NIL it's going to take a bunch of money to lure and keep great players here. Money that may not be around.

Dude is a RS sophomore. And his RS Fr season he threw 28 TDs. You wouldn’t want that guy and to see what Heup could do with him if he were to transfer???
Obviously I’d want him but he’s definitely overrated. He was supposed to be the Heisman front runner

Put a good QB like DeShaun Watson on this team and we win 9-10 games, including yesterday.

Sure, we’re not gonna beat Georgia or Bama, but it’s way closer than all of you doomsday folks are saying.
