Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Actually no this relates to my duties in the architectural review committee in our fascist HOA. I joined the review committee several years ago to try and move the needle towards the HOA leaving people alone.

A tasker from the HOA board to the committee was to define some community “standards” for replacement doors. These tasks usually scream of imposing personal tastes on the community as a whole so I prefer to respond with professional standards where I can.

I tend to lean towards “it’s their property let them do what they want” when it comes to taste. I’d prefer to point to performance standards over arbitrary taste as a euphemism for “quality”

Interesting timing on this question. We saw a commercial for a device that goes on doors to supposedly keep someone from kicking it in ... uh huh; and my wife asked if they still make wood exterior doors. I told her I was sure they did, but I'm not really sure why someone would pick one over a metal door if security is an issue although I'd guess that the door hardware is generally the weak point anyway ... and if all else fails, windows.

It seems to me that women, as they get older, become fearful of life in general. My mother had all of her landscaping removed because she was afraid that someone was going to jump out of the bushes and rape her.

In Texas you cannot get away from them unless you move into a 75+ year old deeded neighborhood or move out into unincorporated areas. The state encourages their formation as it removes a good chunk of their administrative duties off to the HOA. Abd they are granted crazy powers by law.

Unfortunately, I'm in a neighborhood that hasn't been built out completely, so the HOA is controlled by the developer/management company. No residential representation until the area is at 85-90%. With the amount of dues each homeowner pays, I wonder where it all goes. Their claims are the majority of funds are spent on landscaping.

Sounds slushy

Mine doesn't seem to have that problem, but I do every time I forget and let her drive. Fortunately I was back down to the normal range by the time they checked my blood pressure in the doctor's office yesterday.

Boss was driving on our business trip this week. Every time she more than tapped the brakes she was looking down at her phone. More than a few times she had to slam the brakes because she wasnt paying attention. Always tried to pass it off as the other person's fault.
