As to my second point, only as a teacher can you berade another human being w/o fear of repercussion. It's a power trip for the teacher but after she leaves work that day and steps out into the real world she has no such power to treat another human being that way.

This isn't to say that the kid may not be a jerk but that's beside the point here. This isn't going to help him score better on the SATs

Did a mean teacher hurt you? There are plenty of people in "real world" positions of authority that get away with being complete jerks with no consequences.

I had teachers from elementary school through graduate school that I'd love to tell off but couldn't.
