Thoughts on the article below? A lot to chew on but here are my biggest takeaways:
1- I’m surprised they are just now addressing the inconsistent nature of the state reporting. This was a known issue of the datasets early on.
2- It seems like they have a hypothesis about disproportionate impact to minority communities that they want to prove
3- I’m surprised they didn’t mention specifically how positive case counts are determined (test types, cycle counts, etc) and how death counts are attributed to COVID (Primary, contributing, just testing positive, etc)
I applaud the initiative but have my doubts about how effective it will be if this article is a good representation of their approach. Seems more tailored to fitting an SJW conclusion than true data standardization.
Johns Hopkins targets COVID-19 data problems | WTOP
Thoughts?
matches what I posted earlier today - Alabama just processed a couple backlogs of cases from months ago but they get counted as new cases and it looks like Alabama is having a crazy spike both at Johns Hopkins site and the NYT data that Google uses. Cases are actually dropping in Alabama.

Data keeping is awful in so many ways. Knox County stopped reporting on the weekends, probably a couple of months ago. Now, I see things like 16 total hospitalized on Friday and then it is 26 on Monday. There is no way number of hospitalized grew by more than 50% in 2 days. A similar example happened in a Friday/Monday sequence a couple of weeks ago and it was back to the Friday number on Tuesday. It may be happening every week.
Why is it classified info? This would have been coming from the CDC, not the CIA.Its idiotic.
Cuomo gets a reputation as being lockdown heavy. You really think if he knew he was going to get hit with a highly contagious airborne virus in January, like trump did, it would be the one time he wasn't lockdown heavy?
Who called Cuomo when Trump was getting the foreign intel - Trump himself? Or did they do the do the rare situation where they let the State department converse with a governor and share classified info?

OR is it possible that the administration that brought us "alternative facts" wanted to keep information close to the vest again so they could present it - alternatively....
This just seems like an error in the dataset which would be identified as an outlier in any thoughtful analysis.
The bigger questions I would want to know is how is each state classifying a covid death and what are the parameters for a positive test. I suspect it differs by state and might have even changed within a state throughout the pandemic. Also, how many of your positives are a result of testing the same subject multiple times.
Also found the emphasis on the “justice” side of the equation interesting.
I think this why you have to look at an average over a window of time. The window would need to be based on how cases are reported. I believe for most states a 7 day rolling average would take those lumps out that result from weekend reporting pauses.
Trump hopes everyone 'remembers' him when they get their coronavirus vaccinesIs this real? And if so, why did they put the word shot in parentheses like they were insinuating something about it?
Dude, only your first sent made any sense. I think Biden's a moron and I have no idea what self centered inflation is. But I'll be sure to do my part when I figure it outDude..he is self centered and egotistical. Now you have the same with horrible policy. Dont be self centered when inflation skyrockets and gas prices zoom. Do ur part and be thankful.
Have you considered leaving the sperm bank for another job?Got the J&J one-hitter yesterday. No arm soreness but my nose has been running and I've been sneezing all day.
Anyway, I've booked my flight to Wuhan, China and will test this vaccine by kissing bats and licking doorknobs.
Seriously, I didn't want to get it but my bank is "highly recommending" it and I sadly fell in line.
