If death threats against a player was your selection criteria then the last place you'd transfer to is bama. They burn people's houses down and put for sale signs in coach's yards when they underperform. No one forgot anything unless you forgot that. He didn't "fire back" he just backfired.

I remember at the time JG talked about the threats and "mean messages to his sister" after winning the Missouri game. The following week Pruitt was asked about it during his press conference. He said that had been the first he'd heard about it & that the university was investigating. As UT alums, we were embarrassed that fans had supposedly stooped to such a horrible low. That being said it was pretty far fetched to believe that any kid, much less the starting quarterback at Tennessee, wasn't reaching out to coaches / administration / campus police about death threats as soon as they happened.

Oddly there was never anything else said about the outcome of the investigation.

You should NEVER make death threats. That's a universal rule. Anyone actually worth killing is equally worth the element of surprise. For the record, I have never had any problem with any players, coaches, or staff. There are better ways to handle things worth handling than getting all uncultured about it.

You'll learn over time and through experience that it's never smart to go after a fan base.

Think about it. The small minority of the segment who do the boneheaded things are so boneheaded they won't change based on anything you say to them anyway so there's nothing to gain from it there.

On top of that, you risk sending negative vibes to the good majority of fans who want nothing but the best for you.

So when attacking a fan base, there's nothing to gain and everything to lose. Learn from the mistakes of others so that you don't condemn yourself to suffer their same fate for the failure to do so.

Ah, I can rest now. My good deed for the day is done. :p

His freaking cousin? Talk about your 30 seconds of fame..lol. We've got the Michigan LB coming in. I hear he's not great in pass coverage, but he can't be much worse than HTT. One more stud LB and we have an overall upgrade. I hope HTT rides the pines the next couple of years at Alabubba. We owe him and his leaching daddy nothing. I hope JG comes out of fall practice as the starting QB. That'll make some fun times for that program for the first three games or so.

I’m around these boards to talk football with those that can handle adult debate and to keep up on the team. I gotta admit though, people like yourself and others have taken the fun out of it and therefore I’m not around as much as in the past.

Why say anything? Because someone brought it up responding to ME (post #199). All I said is there is more to the story and you chimed in with your BS. I don’t feel a need to be any more important than I am. I don’t care who believes me or don’t . Why? Because it’s not that important. I really don’t care. But get your facts in order before “calling me out as a poser”. Like me or not, I’m not sure very many would agree I’m a “poser”.

Not a transfer to other NCAA schools. It's not a penalty of some sort but I could certainly see some players being uncomfortable remaining at UT depending on what comes out about the Twilight of Beldar.

Exactly. Instead of defending those fans and attacking the kid, we should be condemning those fans. They’re the problem. And it’s not just one or two.

Yes, but it is those few fans that did it. Not the fan base. The false accusation clearly said "fan base" which it never was. He should issue a public apology to the millions of fans who treated him and his family like royalty and not blame the good people as a failed diversion attempt to excuse the disloyalty. Disloyal is disloyal no matter what someone else said to someone else and has absolutely nothing to do with all that extra.

We are talking about individual members who comprise a small faction of the fan base, who don't speak for the Tennessee fan base as a whole. Every fan base has their lunatic fringe. Alabama definitely has their fair share of idiots too. Phil Fulmer received death threats from Alabama fans for several years after it was revealed that he had cooperated with an NCAA investigation into the Albert Means recruitment - but I don't consider the Alabama fans who were responsible for that to be representative of the Alabama fan base as a whole.

I'm sure HT knows there are stupid fans in every fan base and most certainly at Alabama. HT didn't leave Tennessee because of death threats made to JG. He didn't leave because of stupid fans. His cousin didn't say HT left because of disloyal fans nor did Brian Maurer.

Lol, how many of you guys have said HT wasn't that good anyway, to say the least? I've seen many say he sucked and it wasn't the coaching. Lol.

It is highly POSSIBLE that reaction to this element of EVERY fanbase is a factor in transfer decisions at all these schools too. If you leave you get to start over and decide if the reactions by fans were valid or appropriate based on the new fans. Child abuse is in every community too, but does not mitigate the impact where it happens, even if the risk is in other communities. The treatment JG received for his performance will follow us for a while, just like the mattress burning, trailer trash reputation did following the Kiffin exit. The new staff will have to mitigate those representations on the recruiting trail for a while,. The hard evidence of classless acts in social media is easy for players and support folks to google to validate the existence of the needless attacks on the young man, regardless of his on field performance. Risk/reward calculation for competing schools is what it is. So our staff has to find those that can see a win for them at UT even with our documented treatment of JG. They are out there but the yield rate requires casting a wider net and dealing with more prospects. We will never know how many talented guys we will lose due to our OVER THE TOP attacks on our QB. Discretion has it's value, and sometimes freedom of speech has it's costs. It is not that some VOLS shared the truth, but how they shared it that will follow us for a while. It is easy for prospects to assume the risk for similar treatment is higher here than at many of our competitors, and it only takes one to come in second on signing day.

The point, about Updyke, and others, is that Tennessee doesn't have the market cornered on a very miniscule percentage of their fan base that say stupid and ignorant things. Bingo. I guess the cousin doesnt know Janice either. They better make sure they keep the radio turned off, if this season doesnt go like last year. I dont think he understands that 10 wins there is unacceptable. I think HT starts bc Bama is actually thin at ILB. It was all over their spring articles. If he plays bad a against Auburn or TN they will find out quick how ruthless the Tide fans can be.

But those threats were to the enemy, not the home team. Same for the TEABAGGERS and even the TREE KILLER. Eating your own is a whole different thing. Can you provide us with a name from recent AL history to google and show anything close to treatment JG got here? Nobody is arguing that stupid and classless is not everywhere, but not all stupid and classless are created equal.
