Many if not most of them work under the table anyway. Not sure how much that would help.

I agree. I used to live in a city where it was seen as a viable option and many pursued it successfully. I also dealt with plumbing/mechanical contractors for years and saw how a little knowledge and hustle could really pay off

I had a degree and still spent many weekends working with a plumbing contractor learning how the job worked since that was my industry. I want going to be setting sinks and toilets forever but I sure didn't miss any parts when I was quoting jobs years later

One of the best programs out there for trying to teach people a trade and to get them to understand that not every degree is worth the money you pay for it . A liberal arts degree for example would be used to wipe off the grease so you could see how to fix your car or trucks problem without being charged $90 an hour if they look under the hood .

Sad fact is there are hardly any mechanics left, most "auto techs" can't figure out what's wrong without the computer telling them.

There is no one size fits all solution to this. However, there are companies that knowingly hire illegals. Start there. If a company hires an illegal with false credentials, that is not their fault and should not be culpable, but the illegal at that point should go to prison or at a minimum, dropped off in El Salvador. Step 2.

You won't even need them in a few years. Just boot up your laptop or 'phone' and the mother ship at Tesla will fix it via bluetooth.

That won’t work they will hire bosses to take a fall if they get caught . Make the fines so high that it gets the companies attention and a law saying all penalties must go to pay down the National debt only along with a public list of companies and its CEOs that have helped pay down that debt for the year .

That should be about step 5. Also, what do you think will happen when that labor leaves?
