Maurer emerging as QB1?

1) There was never a fair QB competition.
2) Someone has to play QB, and that decision came to Pruitt.
3) In which he decided on Maurer over JT and JG.

Not sure why people are picking at this...
Not sure why you are picking at the fact that Maurer played not because he earned and beat out JG but because a change was needed because of JG’s poor play. The fact that JG was the starter the next year also indicates that BM never beat him out as a starter.

He seems to have been 3rd today. You can't write him off certainly, the kid has had really bad luck, he's a second year player but he effectively had no spring or summer last year and limited reps in fall camp due to contact tracing, so he's not as far along as a second year player normally could be expected to be.
People keep mentioning spring but he was an EE. Lots of Fr do not get a spring.

He got thrown in the fire some last year and looked exactly like what he was, a true freshman who hadn't been prepared for the moment through no fault of his own. To me, Bailey growing up over the off-season has looked like the best chance for a major step forward at QB next season. If that doesn't happen we are left hoping Mauer figures it out, that Hooker is a SEC-caliber diamond in the rough or that Salter is that rarest of rare breeds, a true freshman that can play at a high level (and that he gets un-suspended). All those seemed like less likely propositions than Bailey taking the next step, but maybe they aren't.
I think you guys are making assumptions about Bailey due to his recruit ranking that he hasn't proven in practice or play yet. He may or may not be the best chance to take a step forward but he hasn't shown an elite arm and he doesn't run well.

I’m honestly not surprised that we are hearing more about Hooker and Maurer than Bailey. Bailey was just a freshman last year, but he’s slow, holds the ball way too long, and doesn’t have the best arm. Just gotta hope 1 of the 3 improves and fits this offense best. I’m open to which one gives us the best chance to win, but I believe that’s gonna be the guy who gives us a true dual threat.
i see bailey bouncing after spring. i'd be surprised if he sticks around.

on the other end, i think maurer was close.....but this system fits his natural abilities more because he can run. his issue is improving greatly on reading coverages and accuracy.

hooker comes in with decent numbers and natural foot speed. i think he's the guy to beat!

he was as good as any of them, if not better. he never got a fair shot.
I disagree. Coming out of HS he only had one year of starting experience period. He definitely had the strongest arm but watching them practice in spring 2019, it didn’t take long to understand why he had nearly as many ints as tds. He had control issues. That being said, I have to admit he looked much better in 2020 the little we got to see. But that wasn’t enough of a sample size to declare him “better”.

edit; but I totally agree he didn’t get a fair shot

see, you're doing it again. u ready to throw comments about what people lack, but when somebody says maurer lacks something all of a sudden they're the bad guy.

1. in 2020 he showed in his sample time he was the best. and i think A LOT of folk will agree. just never got that real fair shot and a real short leash
2. high school....so what
3. he was a redshirt freshman in his second system
4. going into 2020 he had ironed those out, but he still was good at reading defenses
5. coaching.....if it was a factor for maurer why not for jt?

Whatever man. We all know what you meant. You do you
I am not talking about mental health issues. That’s the honest to Gods truth too. You can be a headcase on the field which is what he is with his forced throws and awful decisions making just like JG was. I’m hiding behind nothing and I’m not backing down from it. You can try and paint me an my comments however you want. I wouldn’t joke about someone’s mental health issues and I said as much, you clearly have a personal relationship with 18 and that’s great but don’t try and paint me as someone who makes light of mental health issues because you dint agree with my opinion.

Sorry dont care about BM. He just seem like another problem. Hope it works out , but just saying.

We're done, man.
We can't even have a conversation. You answered zero of my questions.
You're determined to trash him.
Like I said. You won't man up if he balls out.
You'll hide...
I am fine having a conversation you won’t give me your reasons as to why you think this is SEC caliber.

Woah buddy be careful they’ll act like you’re taking shots at mental health issues with this post. You can’t disagree with these folks who think Brian has shown he’s All-SEC.

He has a stronger arm, that’s it. JT did get his shot last year. Both him and Bailey looked good at times. In the Texas A&M game I thought I was watching JG again from both of them.

"Has a stronger arm" Sounds like when people called JG "Tough".

Which is interesting because both suck at playing QB.

JT has an impressive arm, definitely NFL caliber. Unfortunately he throws it like that on almost every pass attempt , regardless if it’s needed or not. JT will have to learn when to use finesse or be developed by a good Qb coach.

I think Bailey performed overall a little bit better than JT. JT has no understanding when to make finesse passes. It’s a fastball every time.
i disagree.
and bailey both held onto the ball too long at times and had issues with the deep ball. both had issues, but JT processed coverages faster than them all to me
