So is there anything to even be excited about this fall?

I hope all you optimistic guys are right. I don't know where the optimism is coming from but I hope you're on to something. I look at the Vols right now and I think we won't win an SEC game this year and probably next year. We've lost any talent we had and the NCAA penalties will wipe out anything else we've got. After the disasters the school has gone through in the last 10 years it's going to take at least that long to fix things. I am in my late 60s and I don't think I will live to see the Vols win another SEC title in football.

Maybe UT needs to make some adjustment to the game day atmosphere? If the product on the field isn't up to snuff, draw attention elsewhere? Oregon seems to have some good ideas...

Next I bet you’ll be showing us the beavers......
of Oregon State.

I'm excited about the season. I have zero expectations. I can't wait to see who starts at QB, and what the new O looks like. I'm also curious to see what JG does at Wa.St.

I think its critical that we find a way to get to 6-6. Even if we eliminate ourselves from bowl consideration, we need to show progress to recruits. If Coach H can navigate us to 6-6 and show recruits a fun, high scoring offense in the process, that will go a long way. I think 6 wins is absolutely doable and as long as we can avoid major injuries I think we will reach that.

Agree this is what we need but I won't be surprised if we go 3-9 and the offense looks like keystone cops with penalties, turnovers and blown plays. Fully expecting to be here a year from now reading a board full of posts about how CJH has to get his guys and fully root out bad culture of prior regime. That would follow the pattern of discussion on our last few hires.

It seems like the Football program is a train wreck right now.

This isn't a dig at the coach or players (what players we have retained) as the issues pre-date them. I just don't see Tennessee capable of fielding a very good team with so many defections and impending sanctions. This program is a real mess right now and it is going to be hard to watch or enjoy them as a fan.
Poor , poor, pitiable you. You will never succeed in life if this is your attitude. Your are in serious mental trouble, or the worst troll to hit this board. Either go find some help, or wake up and smell the roses. When you grow up, you had better realize that life is not easy and that , with your attitude, life can will likely get worse. On the other had, if you learn that its takes effort to accomplish anything, one can find something positive and work to obtain most of your goals. Thank goodness the football team is out of you hands and is being led by experienced and capable people who will led the way.

Football!! I love football season, don't get me wrong I'm all vol and always hope for a good season but I'm also a fan of CFB in general. If they have a rough season I hate it but it doesn't ruin the season for me

This could be as exciting a season as 2012 if all these predictions of a high power O and weak D were to come to reality. Pretty exciting folks. 🏈

Every season is a new beginning. It's one of the great things about sport. Clean slate, every year.

Yes, the starting conditions vary. We're starting from a low spot. Our biggest rivals are all starting from a very high spot.

But there is always potential. It's the beauty of a new season. Anything, even the most improbable thing, can happen.

Go Vols!

But you are not a Real fan for being negative... get ready to be attacked. Tennessee, as a program, has less wins than both Mississippi teams or Missouri this past decade. Says all you need to know about this program.

2021.................

I liken this coming season to why we love to watch a high-speed chase on TV. Anything can happen..........

*Run out of gas
*take out a pedestrian
*Car goes off a bridge
*Tire spikes get thrown.
*Car crashes and flips like in Nascar
*Shots fired
OR
*It's Smokey and the Bandit........and he gets away and gets Sally Field......or goes to a Bowl Game
What ever happens............it's must watch TV:cool:

I am looking for a couple of things this fall. The first is good QB play, which we really haven't had since Dobbs. We will actually see good QB play and when the backup comes in, actually having a backup that is prepared to play. Next is seeing 2 of our WRs approach a 1000 yard season. Seeing our TE actually be a weapon is nice too. I am worried about the D because of the LB situation and depth.

If we hit the transfer portal for 4-5 players and most of those on Defense, I will feel better. I do feel like our offense will be much more fun to watch than the past 4 years.

We don't have the talent to run with Alabama, Florida, Georgia, or even Ole Miss so don't get your hopes up. These teams would have to lay a major egg to lose to us. Unfortunately, teams still tend to get up for Tennessee most of the time even when we are down. Those schools are more likely to lay an egg against a South Carolina, Missouri, or Vandy team.
You mean lay an egg like we did against Georgia State? Anything is possible.

The schedule is favorable this fall. The season can be a success, even with the character issues of the last couple of years.

It's a wonder if anybody actually watches the game

Looking forward to the Heupel era of football. I don't expect great things in the first couple of years but at least our offense should look like a offense. The past four years it was just God awful. Soooooo predictable, teams didn't even have to prepare for us defensively because they knew Pruitt was a dumbass.

this is all it takes for me to have something to be excited about. Want to enjoy them while I am able.

LOL ain't that the truth! You can always predict the pattern of discussion on here from game to game each season as well.

Games 1 & 2: In most years, we play lesser opponents and we win these games but don't look particularly great in doing so. The chatter on here typically amounts to "Well we were playing conservative and we didn't want to put much on film for Florida to study. We're saving our playbook for them."

Game 3: Usually this is the Florida game and usually we lose. Followed by disappointment, followed by questions about our QB, followed by questions about why our coach started that particular QB. Followed by "well we have a lot of football to play and can still have a good season."

Game 4: We usually play another lesser opponent in this slot and look pretty good, which gives everyone a false sense of security and a skewed view on how good we actually are. At this point we're thinking we could "make some noise" in the SEC and have a pretty good year.

Games 5-9: So this is usually the meat of our SEC schedule, playing Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, our rotating west opponent, and either KY or Mizzou. This typically is the "nut cutting" portion of our schedule where we really know who we are and...it's usually a disappointment. Lately we come out of this stretch at either 2-3 or 1-4 and this is when we start questioning our coaching staff and wondering if the coach needs to fire the O-coordinator or D-coordinator. Usually we are also screaming for a QB change, regardless of whether the back ups are actually better or not. By now our record is right around 4-6 or 5-5 and talking about how vital it is to win 1 or two more games to get to a minor bowl for extra practices for the team and look better to recruits. After all, we are always "building for the future" and "we have to be patient." This is also the point in the season where recruits start peeling off and we start sliding in the rankings.

Game 10: Typically this is another lesser opponent. I've seen this one go both ways. We either blow them out completely or we come in looking flat and barely scrape out a win. Either way, we're still feeling about the same towards the team from the previous week. Good to get the win but no indicator whatsoever about the team.

Games 11 & 12: In years past these were KY and Vanderbilt, though it's also been Mizzou and Vanderbilt. Here lately it's rare that we get 2 wins from this stretch. Typically we split it 1-1 but we've also gone 0-2 and wound up 5-7 and missing yet another bowl appearance. By this time we are talking about how the coach "is not the guy" and our administration should just go ahead, pull the trigger, and fire him so we can move on.

So to sum it all up. Most seasons start out with hopes of winning the east and ends in wanting a coaching search.
