Do yall truly believe Springer and Johnson are one and done?

I don't think they are ready.

They got schooled by Alabama today. Honestly, if both players were ready for the NBA, they would be taking over these games and dominating. They aren't even our best players in most games.

If your an NBA scout, you have to wonder why we aren't a top 10 team, why they keep choking in quick games, why they are getting beat by non-NBA talent, etc. They are just not dominate enough to be NBA level. They will likely go and should go if they have a chance but I definitely don't see them turning into another Demarcus Cousins, Kevin Durant, or anything special.

i think they both would benefit from coming back, But if the goal is to get drafted on potential and work your way into the NBA via their mini league , if drafted in the 1st round, it would be hard to turn down the money.

I agree with you. They’ve shown flashes. But they’ve got one more full season to be “Lottery Picks” like everyone is saying.

I think both will at least get some feedback from scouts and make a decision. Would not be surprised if both go pro. Both of them have good size and good enough skills to make them attractive prospects. Now if they get graded out as second round picks, then maybe they should come back. But I would not be surprised if they both left.

Maybe not now but after a year of nothing but BB, they’ll be better.

If both were baseball guys, they’d probably signed out of Hs. I wish nba would adopt the mlb model.

Me too. I hate the one and done model, and I don’t think id like us becoming a one and done school. The williams/schofield/bone teams were so fun not only because we won, but because we got to see them grow and they were likable kids who loved being here as much as we loved watching them play. You don’t really have that with one and dones. As soon as Keon and Jaden grew on me as players and I learned a bit about them, they’re gone. Same will be true of chandler.

The thought process should be "will their draft stock rise if they stay another year?"

I'm not sure their stock would rise any higher than it is now. They are both projected pretty high now.

The risks of returning appear to be too high imo. They could get hurt, they could have a down year, how does the draft look this year compared to next, etc.

A one-and-done or two seems like a good part of the mix if they aren’t butt h**** as well. What TN is missing right now is leadership from the upperclassmen and several idiot posters want to clear the roster of every young player that isn’t already a major contributor.

Bad
The offensive system Barnes runs makes it hard for our 5 star guards to look the part. Springer spent a lot of time this season standing around waiting for fulkerson to cut to the basket instead of playing like he did today when Fulk went out injured. Our 2 five stars averaged about 8 to 9 shots a game in the system. contrast that to Pippen at Vandy who averaged close to 15 shots a game and looks like he could play in the NBA tomorrow. And poor SV who looked like he was going to be a scoring beast last season only averages about 6 to 7 shots a game in this same system.
Bad contrast as Pippen is a good guard but he also is their (vanderbilts) only offense for most of the season.

Both have the basic skill sets, athletic ability, and size dimensions to play in the NBA, but the skill sets are raw and inexperienced against other more talented teams where they do not play the one on one game following a mismatch.

Both will improve with another year under Barns and the addition of a point guard, but it would be determined where they are projected in the draft to determine if they are returning or not, Johnson would be the higher pick, Springer's ball handling skills are rawer and sloppy at times, but he is not a point guard.

Regardless of whether they are ready or not, they’re gone. Keon is the projected #6 pick. He isn’t turning down that type of money.

I would say Springer could return because he is projected as a late first-round pick, but rumor is he always was leaving after this year no matter what. He was sold on TN as being a one and done. If that’s the case, he isn’t coming back even if he can improve his draft stock.

That's what I wish. Go to the NBA if you want but if you go to college then you'll be here a while.

If I’m an NBA scout I’m imaging what these guys would look like with a coach that actually adjusts their offense around their skills instead of trying to force a square peg into a round hole like Barnes does.

100% believe they are 1st rounders. Johnson could be an All Star. Glad we got em for a year at least

I disagree. First KY game, Barnes opened the offense up by adjusting tempo. The fr guards flourished. Still, you have kids like Fulky and Vescovi who don't benefit in this type of offense. In the NBA, everyone is much more athletic and versatile (at least a majority are) I think its much easier to let talents like Springer and Johnson do their things at the next level because of how the offenses are. College coaches don't have those luxuries

Folks saying they “aren’t ready” don’t understand how the NBA works. The general consensus age for an NBA player to be in their prime is 27 years old. There’s a lot of development that happens between now and then. Teams draft on potential and help mold these types of players into stars.

One more year in college isn’t going to suddenly turn them into peak Michael Jordan. They get better coaching and development in the NBA, and if they can get drafted 1st round, then you know the team is vested in their success.

I can see Johnson as a potentially ready for NBA but Springer needs another year. Springer makes too many mistakes and he just doesn't seem ready yet. Don't get me wrong, both are great players and we are very fortunate to have them. I just don't see them as ready yet. However, if they can get the $$$, I can't blame them for making the jump.
