Before the commitment ceremony yesterday, Basilio said that Ty was basically securing his spot at one of the two big schools. He will remain open to the recruitment from CJH, and if we show some competency on offense this Fall, then we have a chance to flip him.

He also noted that Horn is not an automatic and we may have to promise him the chance to play baseball if we want to strengthen our chances of landing him.

Vitello’s already involved in his recruitment. Surprised the other Tony doesn’t charge his clones. 😏

Vitello comes on the show all the time. He’s awesome.

TB thinks we’ll have to actually let Horn play baseball and not just make it lip service.
I’m glad TB is drawing that imaginary line in the sand over imaginary lip service. Classic TB...invent a controversy and make a stand! 😅

Here's a link to the interview a couple days ago. For those who didn't hear it. Not a big Jim Rome fan but he likes Heupel.
2/25/2021 - Josh Heupel - The Jim Rome Show - Omny.fm
The players wanted accountability and connection. Former UCF player on CJH "He let our nutz hang man, he let us be us" Coach Heupel mentioned aggression several times. Will put players in position to make plays. Nothing new, but it's nice to have a national media member shed some positive light on our program. Even if it is Jim Rome lol. GBO

Tennessee HS kids think that they have no credibility as top athletes unless they have offers and sign with the out of state powers, Bama, Clemson, and OSU.

That will change once the Vols are winning again.

Same with Texas kids... Quinn Ewers committing to Ohio state case in point.

He could have stayed in Texas and leas A&M to a playoff birth minimum...or (gag) the longhorns. Instead he committed to a school that’s likely there already.

Historically, look at Peyton Manning. He committed to a Tennessee program that was already headed towards the pinnacle. He all but guaranteed that Tennessee got there.

CJH will get us headed in the same trajectory quicker than most believe to be possible. Once the trajectory is obvious, then we will get that transcendent QB. Heck, he might already be on campus. If not, maybe there will be a Heisman and NC QB named Manning at Tennessee!

Hi, my name is VolsDoc.
I am an eternally optimistic VFL! 🤠

We need the dudes who think differently. The ones who want to build.

Totally understand why a recruit picks a Bama or a Clemson but we are in a place where we need a different mindset. That wasn’t Ty apparently.
**** him...he is just another pussy follower. Kids like him are ruining CFB.

So we're not getting TS. Disappointing, but most didn't think we would get him. Hopeful, but didn't expect it. But we know we have at least one excellent possibility who could be better for us. We'll see.

Why do so many people come here only when seemingly bad news happens? Is their life really so empty that they have nothing better to do?
You nailed it

Offense is going to be almost all 4+ stars starting this season (TEs the only group missing):

HB
Salter

Tiyon
CFA (?)

Hyatt
Wideman
Marley
Nixon
Keyton (?)
Calloway
Merrill

Mays
Mays
Wright
Lampley
Carvin

He'll catapult these cats and the recruits will follow. Don't get this idea that he'll just have to develop a bunch of 3 stars. We still have plenty of blue chips and he's a very strong recruiter and has hired even more on defense.
Our biggest concern right now should be the sanctions that are going to come down from the NCAA. Our staff has a very big sell to recruits for the next few years.

at this point, is it possible that recruitment IS the development?

I dunno. With coaches now recuiting round the clock, even their own roster, schollie restrictions, uneven rule enforcement and too many cooks in kitchen..do CFB coaches develop that much anymore?

Me thinks some of that happens more privately in off season or in 7-7 type work. Btw im in no way arguing that kids arent developing on campus, I just think SO much is given to teams like Bama who recruit on an elite level, to continue dominance as long as the checks clear they'll never be scrutinized.

Its really damning for CFB. For teams rebuilding is there enough time to focus on development? Total bull ****.

I think that the best way for this coaching staff to recruit internally to the current players and to the HS players/transfer portal players is to develop the talent on campus now.

It will show this Fall. Heck maybe even by the O@W game. It was music to my ears when this staff has been saying that we evaluate the players and use their strengths. Don’t ask them to do things that they can’t do well. Develop the strength of the players. Improve where they have weak areas (but that won’t be seen in games).

Think about the last staff(s). They were determined to follow their agendas whether the players could or not. Most evident in the results of the 2020 schedule. Poor JG kept getting thrown out there with a game plan that he couldn’t be successful with. The staff could not fathom changing to accommodate the current players. Pitiful.
