The effort DW puts into secrecy

I dont know what any of that means in real terms.

If you don't give the media something to talk about, then they will talk about whatever they want to fill the void of relevancy.

A good AD, a real professional, would have had his hire made before setting foot on UTs campus. A true home run hire, a true baller AD would have done this.

This is my opinion of course but people went full retard in anointing Danny White the Jesus Christ of ADs when the reality is he just walked right off the edge of the pool into the deepest end of the SEC swimming pool with no floaties on his arms. He was big sh!t until the SEC punched him in the face then he staggered and had to hire his old coach from UCF.

Now I know why you have that bag over your head. I can see where we would not want to include Vandy in any discussion, but two other SEC programs in our peer group both made hires, without threat of NCAA nuclear destruction and their hires did not approach homerun status either. A good FAN would never have put a post on this or any other site with such unreasonable expectations. It seems several of our posters have gone to the same pool as our AD and and are in serious danger of drowning in the you must be reasonable end.

Well, you hit rock bottom. You find yourself allying with MWA, one of the worst program-haters on these boards ever to even pretend to be a Vol fan. You can not get any lower.

Better to simply admit you were wrong and the OP was misguided, promise to spend 7 years in careful reflection and re-consideration, than to ally with that dude.

Step back, before it is too late.
I honestly don’t feel like there’s any true haters left at this point in our fan base. If you’re still here you are a true fan. Are there haters of what a dumpster fire this football program has been for the past decade? Sure. Winning cures all. At least for a little bit. I wish you guys would roast some of the 100 or so “what about coach (any name out there)” threads we have on here. Obviously mine hit a nerve somehow? I won’t lose any sleep over it. We’ve obviously hired several coaches already and no announcement has been made by the University. Proves my point somewhat... They can leave everyone pulling their hair out and speculating all they want I guess. !!

But did you live?
They are getting pretty old on here and other Vol forums. They could simply be put to rest if Tennessee handled the media like Auburn and SC did with their hires. Those fans had questions but this month has been way out of hand.

...this month has been way out of hand.
This "month" has been exactly two weeks and two days. That's how long Josh Heupel has been on the job.

Give the man some time to assemble his staff. Heck, I just saw someone say in another thread that Josh should've had his new DC picked BEFORE he was even hired as head coach. Yeah. Heh. Think that through, and it just blows your mind anyone could say those words.

We're being collectively ridiculous. This thread included.

I honestly don’t feel like there’s any true haters left at this point in our fan base....
Oh, you babe in the woods. Trolls lurk volnation.com. Trolls and uglies and foul-spirited sprites galore. You've unwittingly allied yourself with one of them in just the past hour.

I disagree with the OP. The way people react to wild and unsubstantiated rumors is the very reason we DW needs to try to keep things close to the vest. I have no problem whatsoever with attempting to keep the rumors and innuendos to a minimum, although I recognize that's impossible for many.
The fact that you have 47 likes makes a strong statement.

Considering they’ve made some really great hires so far, there’s more evidence that how they do business is working.

Danny’s the most qualified AD we’ve hired in decades and I trust him to operate how he wants to

Yes and VolNation needs pop some Xanax! The AD AND COACH are NOT obligated to tell us everything they are doing or if they know what asparagus is!!! R E L A X let them do their jobs.

People must not understand they just moved to Knoxville, they don’t know their way around campus or the city or where they’re going to live or where they can buy groceries meanwhile they’re working probably 80 to 100 hours getting to know everything and everyone plus recruiting, interviewing, organizing, and planning.

You have to admit. The amount of effort White is putting into this “No Leak” policy is quite ridiculous. If they put half the effort in finding a great coach as they do secrecy/misdirection then it would for sure be home run hires. It’s also pretty childish and smug to do this in 2021. I understand there has to be some confidential information but Auburn and other teams did not do this mess. You’d have less problems just giving a little information like normal administrations. JMO
How much effort is he putting into it?
You don’t know.
Plenty of rumors as usual and nothing else except when an actual hire is made.
Maybe just because there’s not more getting out is because there isn’t more to tell.

Maybe Danny White should be our DC. Anyone check his Wikipedia? Maybe if he could clamp down on opposing offenses the way he does with any leaks he should be a shoe in for the job.

I like it. It’s nobody’s business until ink meets paper. There are a lot of Tennessee fans who are so used to knowing everything because in the past 25+ years nobody knew how to keep their mouth shut. Jimmy Hyams being one of them. Personally, it would make my day if DW banned Hyams from campus.

I'll take secrecy. Given what little we saw leaked, it's pretty clear we went after Al Washington pretty hard.

Still, little real substance leaked here OR at OSU. While it's easy to hate OSU, they run an elite, very tight football program.

That we didn't have a damn clue how it would finally come out and neither did they tells me we've got at least the bones of a professionally run program. That's a positive.

The quieter the better. Then we can't get publicly jilted numerous times.

All these "sources" articles are pure speculation by small-time guys just filling a paragraph online & getting clicks. Once CBS, ESPN, AP or someone real reports a move, well, we'll know.

I think it's great that he's trying but he can't control the side he's talking to because they're not under his purview. Other coaches have agents, families, friends, coaches they work with, their own staff, etc. White, of Coach, can't control everything that comes from the other end of the conversation.
I agree with you. But the whole investigation of illegal benefits thing was leaked before TA&M game. There wasn't "another side" there. Somebody who had access put info out into the public. That was harmful to UT, to the investigation, and the leak could have only come from in house.

I think he needs to control the messaging out of the Department like and brand would do, and should discipline anyone who leaks info outside the Department.

Nothing Normal about Tennessee Football, it hasn’t been Normal for a minute now

Maybe this is a good moment for a reminder:
Intentional leaking is a way for people within an organization--who have not been appointed or authorized to make decisions or direct policy--to leverage direction or inhibit efforts they don't agree with, and to do so anonymously.

Does anyone think that helps the Vols hire better people to coach, staff, or recruit?

Would you move from another state to devote your time and energy to a place where--at any time, for any cause--your efforts and reputation might be sabotaged by an anonymous person you're not even accountable to?
(Can I get an "Amen!" from any pastors out there?)

Controlling the leaks is about ridding the UTAD of personal agendas, and consolidating the entire department to focus on one goal: lawfully achieving athletic success at the University of Tennessee.

And how do you know DW is putting so much “effort” in controlling leaks? Sounds like you just made that up. Normal administrations - please explain what that means. Are you familiar with administrations at other institutions or are you even familiar with the current UT administration?

DW probably wouldn’t be whining about leaks if he wasn’t trying to stop them.
