Tony Elliott Appears To Be a Target

Judging Elliott's potential as HC because Pruitt was an idiot doesn't seem unfair to you?

I think it's natural for people to compare them because of their resumes prior to being a HC. I think it's a roll of the dice when it comes to HC hires, particularly coordinators, and a lot of hires that seem destined for greatness wind up being epic failures (i.e. Tennessee, Texas and Nebraska). Then again, great coaches have to come from somewhere. It's not like great HCs just become that way overnight. But is Tennessee the program to test that out at?

I think in the end a lot of it comes down to the staff they bring in. A lot of people were excited about Pruitt because of the staff he got, which amounted to nothing.

With our current situation we are sitting at the poker table with a 2-7, hoping for a miracle. The bigger play is getting someone to accept the risk to their career by coming here while we are holding a losing hand.
maybe UT shouldn't be gambling, because they are always drawing the losing hand.

Holy crap some of our fan base is just stupid. With the possible trouble we are going to be in going out and getting a Stoops is out of the question. The best stupid thing I have heard is offering Dabo 20 million. Matt Campbell isn t leaving Iowa State. Kiffin won’t happen either will Hugh. Chadwell, Napier or Elliot are the likely options. Gus will set back and collect his buyout money. Herman is a possibility I would imagine.

No, we’re not even sitting at the main table because we won’t pony up enough to play with the high rollers.

These Elliott articles are hints from the AD, intentionally leaked to try to soften the blow and spin this in a positive light. If I had to guess, all the current HC’s have already been approached and said no.

Pure speculation, of course.

Hey Loservol, I usually agree with you.

But Fulmer doesn’t live here anymore and hope is possible.
not with another coordinator hire. I can understand if everyone doesn't agree with me. Feels like I'm stuck in the Twilight Zone, having to relived a bad event over and over again.

Honestly I wouldn't give 2 shi*s what Peyton wants. He wanted Schiano for gawds sakes and rumor is he's pushing for Adam Gase. I'm surprised he's not pushing for Jerry Sandusky and pushing to provide him w legal help so they can pluck him out of jail.

Another Schiano Sunday sandwich coming up.

Elliet would be another Wille Taggert. We will be doing this dance again in 2024 if we hire this guy he isn’t ready for SEC prime time never been a HC before why after the disaster that Cornbread was would we hire another coordinator???

Dude, just stop already. Everyone knows how you feela bout Elliott getting the job. Whether it be Elliott, Stoops, Herman, or any other, we still support him and give them the chance to show us what they are capable of.

All I’m saying is what if Elliott is smokescreen for another coach that is not being mentioned by the clickbait artists? Prove me wrong

So what IF Frost is hired and Elliott is named OC and HCIW and this whole Elliott is top target is smokescreen?

There's no proving something wrong when it's an outrageously dumb suggestion. So become an OC under an inferior head coach, like Frost, at a university facing sanctions with inferior talent to what you have now?

Go look who’s represented by Parker executives, Frost is as well as Campbell, just saying dude, WHAT IF, better than people suggesting the OC from Kent St I seen lol 😂

Elliott has been on staff for 10 years. Is it possible he’s part of the reason for Dabo’s success?

We can recruit here, regardless of who is the coach. We can attract good assistants, regardless of our record.
Perhaps Elliott has great skills in communication and organization, and white can help him where he lacks experience.

Look at the last 3 failed coaches. They were arrogant and ignorant. They were insecure and didn’t want to hire good assistants, or didn’t trust them to do their jobs. Personality and ability to push players to greater heights is more of our problem than x/o’s or recruiting.

I’m keeping an open mind about anyone White selects.

Hogwash. We just made White the highest paid AD in the SEC and the 4th highest in the entire country. In 2017, we reportedly offered Gundy a 6 year deal worth 42 mil. That's 7 mil per. That would have made him the 6th highest paid coach in the country in 2020 had he accepted....and he rejected us TWICE! We aimed big IMO. This crap about UT being cheap is total BS. Fans don't want to hear it, but UT isn't the "plum" job most of our deluded fans seem to think it is. Not every coach and their family want to live in the hills of east tennessee. Not every coach wants to take on a job with a program being led by people who are back biters and clueless about how an athletic department SHOULD be run. You can't just throw money at these coaches anymore. They're all making damned good money. They're no longer willing to "compromise" for the big payday. Now it's more the intangibles and support than the money. They're more than willing to wait for that ideal situation to open up. Folks need to quit being lazy by using this "going cheap" excuse and recognize the situation for what it is.
