There is a common denominator tho when you look at what people from college are getting interviews and interest from NFL teams....

Ryan day, Lincoln Riley, Urban Meyer, Dan Mullen, Matt Campbell, and Tony Elliot..... that’s the list.

Tony isn’t on there by mistake. I’m tired of overthinking coaching hires. Ties, background, record, resume, etc there’s no science to it. Like we talked about earlier when is the last time the home run hire actually worked. Just get someone that’s well respected and let’s see what they can do.
Truth 💯

It’s a risky hire.

It would be risky for white. He wanted to hire him UCF. Maybe he is ready now and white would do all the things to help him succeed. Still risky. But upside is massive.

Bette than hiring a safe lame sitting head coach.

I would be thrilled with others if they came as well.

Any HC experience is better than none. Im not sure you realize all of the extra stuff you have to do.

I look at it like this.
You don't go from being a line cook at a McDonald's (lot less requirements and you have one job) to being a manager at Ruth's Chris (tons more requirements with lots of jobs) without the experience in between.

I just want a guy who's been the manager at Ruth's Chris with the experience of juggling all that comes with being the head guy. I think we can find someone who fits that without having to go the route of hiring a 1 year coordinator.

The list of guys who go from coordinator to HC at a big program and have crazy success is pretty limited. Kirby? We just can't take that risk again.
But my point is you don’t have the spot light being a head coach at other places that you even do being a coordinator somewhere like Clemson. Definitely not anything close to the spot light of being the head coach here. Being a good head coach somewhere else doesn’t translate to being a good headcoach at a big program. Look at Scott frost.

He may be the brightest offensive or defensive mind in the game......the best schemer, recruiter in the the business.....if
he doesn't have HEAD COACHING experience at a power 5 or large G5 program that has been successful then we need to continue the search.....It may not be the splashy, sexy hire many of you crave, but winning the introductory press conference means absolutely nothing........only an experienced fireman can clean up this raging grease fire we have created over the last 15 years!!

Don’t mind Elliot but if we’re going the coordinator route I’d rather have Joe Brady. Not sure if he could recruit or not and believe he’s destined to be the next McVay in the NFL.
Brady doesn't want to coach in college, he hates recruiting. Per on NFL guy who did an interview on TB's show earlier this week.

I don’t know what we will do. I have no idea. But if Elliot were the hire i will lead the band for them.

I am going to support whoever they hire. If its Elliott, that would tell me that about 10 others have said no. I don't think Elliot would want this mess for his first HC especially after turning down some good NFL teams.

Hyams just tweeted that DW has announced that he will be hiring a search firm to assist with the coach search. That doesn’t sound like he has his man to me.

It sounds to me like DW doesn’t know who in the athletic department he can trust to set up his meetings and not immediately log on VN to talk about it.

Lincoln Riley and Day take over well oiled machines. Elliot has to build us up. Big difference.

Not saying he can't do. t, just a lot more risk. We can't miss on this hire.

Kiffin or campbell until it's not!
I think kiffin is much more of a risk than Elliot. When has he actually shown to be a great head coach?

With Tony Elliott calling plays and being involved in the game planning Clemson has
In 2015- Hung 40 on Bama
In 2016 Hung 31 on Ohio St and 35 on Bama
In 2018 Hung 30 on ND and 44 on Bama
In 2019 Hung 29 on Ohio St and 25 on LSU
So, Miss me with the they don't play anyone BS, his offenses have scored points on good teams aka teams with even talent.
Helps when you have Watson and Trevor Lawrence, but he also attracts those types of players. If he comes here we really need to land Simpson. Actually, whether he comes here or not we have to land Simpson.

I'm definitely not saying having HC experience makes you a winner at a place like this. Im just saying I would personally feel more comfortable with someone who has had the long list of responsibilities and had success at a previous stop.
