And you think UT is going to risk another unproven assistant HC after what we just went through? I'll go with what Boyd, and Plowman said, this school isn't a proving ground. And what Atlvol said we are hiring a sitting P5 coach.
I don’t know what we will do. I have no idea. But if Elliot were the hire i will lead the band for them.

The staff is a big concern. He's never coached outside South Carolina.

If he can clear that hurdle... Who knows.

I don't think he and Pruitt are on the same rung of the ladder, in terms of coordinator candidates. Pruitt was known to be a project.

Elliott is much less so, by all accounts.
Here's my optimist spin - Elliott could bring that Clemson culture here - family and good relationships among all. Pruitt brought the mercenary jerkarse culture here and it didn't fly, because he isn't Saban. Elliott could be like Dabo and bring in...and keep...staff for a long time and be respectable. Parents would like him, by all accounts players too, Dabo's players hardly ever decommit or transfer.

If you think Elliott is the man, you hire him. You don’t let Jeremy Pruitt’s failures dictate who you can and can’t hire.

Elliott is a good coach, a creative mind, young and recruits really well. I’m all for it if this is the pick.
If White thinks he is the next big thing I am fine with it.

Of course i was excited about him but he had a lot of red flags. Certainly a lot more than Elliot. I’m not even sure Elliot has one? Outside of he unknown of haven’t been a HC but like i said before i think being the HC at Tennessee is much like being the president. You’re never truly prepared for this job until you have it. I don’t think being a head coach at Coastal Carolina or Iowa state or Minnesota is anymore preparing you than being a coordinator or a position coach.

Any HC experience is better than none. Im not sure you realize all of the extra stuff you have to do.

I look at it like this.
You don't go from being a line cook at a McDonald's (lot less requirements and you have one job) to being a manager at Ruth's Chris (tons more requirements with lots of jobs) without the experience in between.

I just want a guy who's been the manager at Ruth's Chris with the experience of juggling all that comes with being the head guy. I think we can find someone who fits that without having to go the route of hiring a 1 year coordinator.

The list of guys who go from coordinator to HC at a big program and have crazy success is pretty limited. Kirby? We just can't take that risk again.

Elliot would be no different than Beamer at SC except he’s been a play caller for 1 year. 1. Disaster
6 years. He called them before, not Scott.

But I am concerned he's had an absurd amount of talent to work with. Has not proven he can be a "does more with less" guy.

No, we need a good head coach.

I don’t know Tony Elliott isn’t one and neither do you.

Young, energetic, smart, has a stellar reputation and is innovative. I’m all in if he’s the guy.

Exactly. The arrogance of people in general to think they know more than they do is always hilarious. Understanding what you KNOW and what you DON'T KNOW is a very underrated character quality.

Exactly... Culture, Family, Integrity, Winning attitude.

Exactly.

Dabo & Saban could lose coordinators every year and still make it to the CF Playoffs.
Saban has proven that multiple times with both OCs and DCs. And several position coaches.

Dabo not so much.
He hasn't replaced a coordinator since his first playoff game.
Venables has been there since 2012 and he's only had 2 OC combinations since 2011.

The irony about Dabo is, the bulk of his experience prior to being the interim and eventually the HC was not as OC but WRs and TEs. That doesn't mean Elliot is a guarantee or even a good choice but they don't all start off as HCs either.
