I don’t care whose feelings would be hurt...if we could land Kiffin with Steele as DC, and lock him into a contract that guarantees he stays at least 5 years, because his buyout, if he leaves, is so ridiculous no one would touch him (and that includes NFL), then you make it happen ASAP!!! We have more talent than Ole Miss and he was scoring insane points with them. Steele would get the defense turned around. My only reason I don’t see it happening is that the NCAA would probably frown heavily on that move and hammer us more for the infractions. I know this...there are 4 of us on this board who would call the ticket office and request season tickets as soon as the hire is made!
I truly don’t see how the university, on the edge of major recruiting violation sanctions, can justify hiring a coach that left your school with recruiting violation issues, no matter how long ago it was. How could that possibly happen?

I was thinking they only held Gray and Maurer out of a game. I assume to avoid the knowingly playing a potentially ineligible player.

Pruitt didn't know how much the investigation had uncovered. I bet he took that trip to see HT and he was still under the assumption it was no big deal and he would still be coaching.

Y’all are beyond crazy if you wouldn’t be excited if Bob Stoops was announced as our next HC, especially considering the mess this program is in. That’s ludicrous!!
Bob stoops hasn’t been coaching by choice.... why would he all of a sudden come back to coach a jacked up tennessee?

Got a real hard time believing that one. Every single one of those players? Why were they flying out to see HT?
Pretty sure when they flew out there, they had no idea what was coming. My understanding is that both Pruitt and Fulmer felt blindsided by what ultimately happened. They actually thought they would weather this storm. Turns out Hurricane Donde was more than they could handle.

I think Rucker is right. UT has put itself into an almost death penalty state.
I’m not so sure. It’s almost like UT has drawn a line and dared the NCAA to cross, (The Volunteers have done more than their share. How will you respond?).

If the NCAA does try to lumber across, UT is liable to laugh in their face and declare enough.

We are crossing into a different era. It truly might be in UT’s benefit to have a female at the helm.

Feels like we have to absolutely nail the first offer we make or the deluge of rejections and negative press will start all over again.

South Carolina and Auburn had a few no's in their search and kept it moving. I don't think we get that respect from local and national media. They are expecting (and craving) a repeat of our last search. They want to drop 10+ articles in 3 days about who all has said no.

We better get it right.

I didn’t say he would. I was saying to all those who say no to Stoops, you are crazy if he is willing to say yes and come here. I don’t think he would either. But if he said yes, I would do flips...on the trampoline.

An immature Kiffin who bolted Knoxville to return home to USC now having more wisdom and regret will bolt Oxford to return home to Tennessee? Give it time. Would he be missing the good old days in Oxford sooner rather than later if he returned? Would Ole Miss have him back after he left them high and dry?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Maybe that short stint in the XFL reignited his passion? The way I see it, even if we have no shot, you still pick up the phone and ask. The worst he can say is no. There's always the possibility, even if slim, he's intrigued and says yes. Absolutely nothing to lose in asking.
