To state the obvious, while freedom of speech is a fundamental right, it is not absolute, and therefore subject to restrictions.

Don't believe me? Go into your nearest movie theater, yell "FIRE!" and wait for LEOs to come arrest you. Wanna go hard core, write or speak a threat to the President or other elected officials. Then, enjoy your conversation with the Secret Service.

A good perspective.

Free speech is meant to guarantee one subject is not restricted, however; political speech. If any free speech must remain above limitation, it is speech about one's government.

It's a weird thing because FB, YouTube, and Twitter have given common people a voice that they never had before. On the net, they have done more for free speech than just about anybody/any entity. Yeah, they are cracking down on some viewpoints but we all have more capability to be heard more than ever before. Even somebody who is kicked off all major social media still has more of a voice than the average Joe did 25 years ago.

Maybe I’m missing something, but the report that the Washington Post links to which is the basis for many of these bans and for Parler to be purged from the internet, looks like some dudes blog from his moms basement. Includes only screenshots from anonymous Reddit users. Then politicians just say “Washington Post is reporting that....” like it’s authoritative. This is the agitprop machine.

I can go to a movie theater and yell fire until my head explodes. I just can't do it in an occupied theater.

The only limits to free speech is speech that harms or threatens.

Forget it Hog. These lefties think saying anything they disagree with is yelling "fire" in a theater. You can't have a meeting of the minds with them ( you're a mind short here...not yours).

No, that is not the viewpoint of conservatives. Some Republicans maybe but being a republican does not make one a conservative.

I fully support the tech companies right to ban, refuse service, edit whatever and whomever they choose for whatever reason. I would like the same courtesies.

Yes and no IMO. Yes under nearly every circumstance except overthrowing said government via violence.
