Yeah, they need to hammer out a settled buyout, so this ends cleanly. If you fire "with cause" and that cause is specifically related to infractions/violations, you have to feel comfortable that the cause is foolproof. There are millions on the table for Jeremy as well as his reputation. With the whispers that Pruitt has retained an attorney for himself, it's possible that a settled buyout is already in the works, which could explain some of the feet dragging.

Tennessee needs to go ahead and make a decision one way or the other. Nothing positive comes from this level of delay and unrest. Recruits and transfers get cold feet. Assistants and possible new head coaching candidates get other jobs and continue to see Tennessee as a toxic environment for coaches despite the legacy and resources of the program.

Agreed-- they need to move decisively toward a resolution. Highly unlikely they have incontrovertible evidence. It's not like he's an elite coach they want to keep at all costs. For major infractions, they tend to exercise an abundance of caution and restrict responsibilities. He's going about his job, contacting recruits, looking at transfers and planning staff changes, hampered by endless rumors and speculations.

Pruitt must have really pissed some people off

I think most sane people that aren't glued to a message board are just assuming they won't hear anything until the investigation is wrapped up. It's definitely been too long. But in the long run, I think it's going to be okay. We aren't going to lose our football team. We already suck so it's not like the team is going to be even worse.

All that matters is that they eventually fire him and find the right coach and hope we get lucky.

The options might be limited, but they were always going to be that way. Lots of directions we can go and lots of coaches that have been dragged through the mud or have been overlooked for big jobs that might want a chance to revive themselves here. Now can we identify that person? Who knows. Probably not. But it's not impossible. They can right this ship quickly if they bring the right coach in.

This is why Marrone makes the most sense at this point. Veteran guy who won't be spooked by the situation on the hill. Napier, Herman, and other younger guys may wait for other opportunities.
Marrone will be run out of town and be the next hated ex-coach in 4 years after averaging 6.75 wins. I won't change my mind until I am proven wrong. I feel the exact same about Gus.

I have jumped several pages. My suggestion is to offer him the HC job at UT.If he takes the job then we will know if exists. If he sucks as Football coach he can just hide again

Yeah I think what sucks the most for me is we've had a total of 4 HCs bail or get fired (I'm counting Pruitt) and every single one of them left us with a pile of **** to deal with in one way or another.

Kiffin dropped us within days of NSD, and then his staff was contacting our recruits.
Dooley, well we all know what Dooley did (or rather didn't do) while here.
Butch, that guy...the definition of petty and self-absorbed, what's weird is somehow the sexual assault case he was part of seems to be a distant memory (Tennessee settles sexual assault suit for $2.48 million) and then the audacity to milk the maximum amount of his buyout after that...yeah not a fan.

And now Pruitt seems to be positioning himself somewhere between Dooley/Butch, where despite him being at fault for ultimately what will be the reason for his departure will fight tooth and nail to get the max buyout he can. Claims he'll return to DC at Bama, but don't be surprised if Uncle Saban doesn't so willfully extend a hand.

Tom Herman is someone I think we could all get behind. Therefore, I expect Rush propst being announced.
I wouldn't hate a Hermehn hire, I wouldn't feel great about it either, but it's a lot better than that other isht name being thrown around.

I would get on board with Hermehn...

Absolute no on Marrone and Malzahn.

great defense, and he put some really physical football teams out on the field.

it wouldn't be a bad hire. it just wouldn't do much to instill confidence or get anyone excited. marrone would have to 'win over' fans....and we're not gonna be good enough, fast enough, for him to do that...imo anyway.
I love good defense, but you have to put a real offense on the field too.

@LA Vol can we not just fire the guy, pay him, and get this over with? Does the investigation have to play out first? Do they not realize how much worse this is getting by dragging it out?

Fire him a month ago, hire Freeze, and VN is rocking and f’ing rolling right now. Always knew it was too easy of damn solution for UT to get right 🙄

Well, yes, they could have fired him months ago for any number of reasons, including performance. Pay his buyout and both sides could have moved on with less animosity and damage. But now UT is in the legal zone. They either let him do his job, keep him, stand behind him and hope broken relationships can be pieced together for another year... negotiate a buyout with NDA... or fire for cause and expect legal ramifications.
