The question he was referring to was Where I asked if Pruitt could sue for MORE than just the buyout.
Yes I know but I’m just asking what’s costing the university & program more in the long run? I mean if they’re attempting to get out of the buyout or negotiate it down or would it just be cheaper to pay it & move forward without dragging everyone involved thru the mud. Idk that’s why I ask the question

I was a bartender in college. I was hired by an African American Neonatologist to tend bar for his Halloween party. He and his wife were going as white plantation owner and Southern belle (both African Americans). He told me that I had to come as a black character.

Once I arrived, he told me that he forgot to get limes and that I would need to go to the grocery store to get some. This is in Memphis. I told him that he had to go with me or I would get killed...funny thing happened at the grocery store. The produce guy (African American) came up to me and asked if my friend was okay . The doctor was really dark skinned and his white makeup just made him look kinda gray. He looked sick. I lowered my sunglasses and said that the world is a strange place. He looked at my blue eyes and just walked away muttering about crazy ass Memphians. I was very proud of my makeup job, no one knew that I was Caucasian unless I took off my sunglasses.

No one considered me racist that night or any other time that I have told that story. The couple that I worked for that night were both very well respected Neonatologists. No one took offense at any of our costumes. Of course, it was 35 years ago...
The dumbasses have taken over the world since then..or taken over the entertainment and media industries.

If we do hire Marrone. Marion Hobby could potentially be back in the program as DC or Co-DC. He was really good during his time at Clemson as a DL Coach and recruiter. Been with Marrone a while now.

Let's just hire Marrone as HC. Chadwell as OC. Muschamp and Hobby as Co-DC's. Who cares at this point?

You had me, right up until you listed ... yuck I can't hardly type it ... Muschamp. EEEwww!!!

Yes, legal action is an issue. Coaches retain counsel and threaten to sue. The threat of damages is real, because juries are unpredictable and you never know what they'll do. But most cases settle, so universities are also concerned about what might come out in discovery. Fired coaches are willing to spill everything and hang everyone out to dry. That almost always implicates people up the chain. So most schools would rather pay someone to go away with an NDA than assume the risk of a lawsuit. UT has done this multiple times-- most recently, Butch Jones, who made it clear he would sue and burn everybody.

Which suggests to me that if there is serious consideration of firing Pruitt with cause, that his sins must rise to such a level that a lawsuit would be more damaging to him than the university. Criminal even?

"Wrongful firing" or probably "breach of contract" etc.
Yeah, those are the baseline concerns, but once you get into suggesting NCAA violations or paying players, you get into defamation territory. Now with how the FBI and NCAA handled the college basketball assistant coaches in the Christian Dawkins scandal, you might even have the potential for an indictment for a federal crime: wire fraud.

The other thing to keep in mind is firing a coach for cause is basically admitting that the allegations of misconduct are true. If you can work on a settlement, you can get rid of your coach without having to state a reason, which allows you to continue to skirt the allegations of misconduct until the NCAA comes knocking. If the violations lead all the way up to Pruitt, then you're dealing with the NCAA's nastiest charge: lack of institutional control

I don't really see a viable avenue for Pruitt getting fired with no settled buyout based on the information being thrown around in these forums. I know he's a stubborn ole Gump, so he's probably fighting for every penny.

“Things are now trending in a direction where Jeremy Pruitt will not be the coach next year”.

Direct quote.

Fulmer has been on swains show multiple times and they are very close. I don’t know swain personally just from being at practices mainly butchs last year and Pruitt first year but i think it’s a very good possibility that He is setting the table for fulmer and feeling out the fan base for him.

If I’m PF I’m not worried about how the fan base feels about firing Pruitt, I’m worried about how they feel about who I hire.

and i'd have no doubt pruitt would do the same.

which again, makes no sense as to why the results of this investigation are the deciding factor. they don't need that to justify firing him, at least from a public perception standpoint, and there's got to be next to nothing to gain in the long run by saving the $12m buyout.

none of this makes any sense. at all.

It went toxic, Jake. Testosterone got involved. So now it's a pizzin' contest. If Skoalcan has some dirty on them he will use it to preserve the buyout and maybe add a little to it. If UT has enough on Skoalcan they can lower it. Typically when it hits this stage, nobody really wins. Both sides will be years recovering.

Want to vent for a second about how close I “could” be to having insider status, lol.
My uncle got his masters from UT, he was an insanely successful business man, sits on several boards at a very big D1 school, and is a 7 figure donor to a Podunk school here in WV, where he got his undergrad. He gets calls and letters frequently from UT, but refuses to support them! Pisses me off, and he has the audacity to give me **** about the Vols every chance he gets!! Ok, end rant, carry on!

Sooo I’ve narrowed it down!..you’re uncle is definitely Jimmy sexton or Paul finebaum👀😅😂

Let's be honest, he's guilty of violations. Saban would be too. As would Dabo and anyone else. It's just about how much of a trail exists and who the guide is. Him suing would also ruin his career as a coach.

The likelihood of him being guilty is high I agree. However the ability to prove it is much lower.

it possible Pruitt is fine collecting one big check with a lawsuit, moving back to Alabama and being seen as a hero that took down a rival and coaching high school football

But yea I agree a lawsuit would be damning to his professional career

It’s what college football has become.

Alabama with Saban routinely gets in shootouts.

Clemson has one of the best DCs in all of college football and got rolled by Ohio State. LSU last year.
"Relatively good defense"...that is what I said. I do not want a sorry sh***y defense..period. I despise this pinball ****.

The issue as I see it is it’s likely that he’s was told he was being retained and now it’s just the violations that are at issue

thanks so that says a lot about the delay.

Let’s take what Atlanta Vol has said and assume much of it is true and that an inside person turned Pruitt in these violations. If Pruitt can prove that he isn’t guilty of those violations he damn sure should sue the school.

Here's the thing: every major program does things that they don't want to get out. Some are worse than others, but there's an implicit agreement that "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." And most of the time, it does. But when one thing gets out, an investigation can uncover a lot more. Few hands are clean.

Firing for cause is difficult... and it can be risky. A school can find grounds and threaten, but coaches can threaten right back. When all parties retain counsel, it becomes a legal game of who blinks first and who has the most to lose. Whatever the outcome, it's generally a costly win.

I mean to me at least, the only reason an investigation drags out this long is you're making sure you've crossed all your T's and dotted all your I's, so when ya start rolling heads you can be direct and quick about it.
I hope you're right but it is Tennessee. They screw themselves over repeatedly.

Most people mess up hard-boiled eggs. If there’s any Grey color whatsoever on the yolk then they are over cooked. It’s actually one of the more delicate things to cook/boil. 😅
My brother Used to always talk about how he could boil a perfect egg LOL. He was a chef and was trying to explain this to me.
