How well would Marrone be able to recruit? He hasn't been on the trail in many years, and not in the south either... And hasn't had to go against the slimy GA's AU's FL's and AL's in recruiting/negative recruiting... The key, and only way I think he'd be okay is if he were able to bring in a VERY experienced staff, which you would think he could do, having so many NFL connections...

But it may not make a difference because it sounds like the Admin and AD are fighting and won't have anything cleared up until February, when UT will basically be a barren wasteland...

listening to Lowe trying to justify keeping Pruitt because of covid is nauseating.
he didn't beat that drum too hard....just making a point that you could explain keeping him. they've also made points about why you could fire him.

the bigger point he and swain are both making is that there's really no reason to drag this out like they have knowing we need to be recruiting, trying to get transfers in, hire a staff etc.....if we're gonna keep him.....and we're watching other programs snatch up coaches we may want to look at hiring, either as HC or position coaches.....so if you're gonna fire him, fire him.

that waiting on this investigation, hoping for something bad to be found is a terrible decision and will have a net result worse than our situation now....and that a program that goes out, actively looks for reasons to fire a coach with cause, is gonna be a tough sell to prospective coaches....and that will lose us players off this roster, that will cost us recruits down the road and the roster COULD be a shell of it's former shelf for the next guy that comes in, to do another complete rebuild from the ground up............yea!!!!

basically, the same stuff we've talked about. this whole thing is stupid, and they're making a bad situation worse, again.

Harder than people think. And ridiculously self-inflicted.
Just curious in your opinion whose most at fault in this? Are donors making these investigation findings way more than they are (I.e. trying to find cause to fire Pruitt) or in your opinion are the findings so serious that there could be major repercussions?

Where specifically does the dysfunction at UT sit?

Is it the UT administration?
  • I ask because from all indications - Boyd and Plowman are good for the program. Or am I reading that wrong?

Is it the UT Athletic Department?
  • If we cleaned out the AD 3 years ago, where is the dysfunction? Is Fulmer alone just the problem?
  • Did Fulmer hire yes men/women in the AD and is driving it in wrong direction?

Is it the UT BOT?

Is it internal with the boosters?

If only we could be so fortunate. LSU won a national title 4 years after they fired Les.
Well I just mean you can't rebuild the relationship with Pruitt at this point. Much like with Miles, if they don't fire him this year, they will do it at the first sign of ineptitude in 2021.

And while I think Pruitt should be fired, I don't think he should be held in limbo like this. Just do it already.

I think they are terrified of the potential candidate pool and looking like idiots on the national stage.

Who do you think is most at fault? Fulmer? Boosters? Pruitt? Someone else?

If we are going the Marrone route, you better bet Fulmer has told Steele and Garner to start calling real estate agents.

I know I’m in the minority, but I think Herman does extremely well here. Young, chip on his shoulder, wants to prove himself, hot wife. Saves you buyout money. This seriously makes the most sense. I question marrones desire to coach college ball. Herman also already has relationships built with recruits.

I’m cool with him.
i'm not against it. it's just not a name that is gonna generate much......, well, anything. it sounds/looks like a hire that mid 90's Kentucky would make. solid coach. not sure how excited recruits would be to come play for him.

would probably be another 5 year plan, minimum.

yeah, 3 years ago. remember, we "won"....sigh.

Replaced everybody-- President, Chancellor, AD, the entire BOT, HC, assistants-- even admin assistants. They even revamped the VFL program.

UT was incredibly stable for decades... and was a top program in the marquee sports. UT had one of the few profitable WBB programs. UT brands were strong. Now UT has been incredibly unstable for more than a decade... and has dropped to the bottom of the conference in FB and WBB. WBB is no longer profitable, and UT brands are tarnished. Self-inflicted-- all of it.

Could you see the admin targeting Herman?

also oversaw one of the best defenses in recent memory.
great defense, and he put some really physical football teams out on the field.

it wouldn't be a bad hire. it just wouldn't do much to instill confidence or get anyone excited. marrone would have to 'win over' fans....and we're not gonna be good enough, fast enough, for him to do that...imo anyway.
