Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

I'm slowly warming up to the idea of going with an NFL guy. But I would probably prefer Jason Garrett over O'Brien or Marrone.

I'm a cowboys fan and he wasn't as bad as some folks say. Without a couple incredible Aaron Rodgers plays, he probably makes a couple deep runs in the playoffs. He never had more than one or two truly great teams, but the cowboys were very consistently good under him.

All the reasons we liked Gruden in the past would apply to Garrett (admittedly without the Superbowl ring to flash around). He didnt burn any bridges on his way out like O'Brien did. Won more consistently than Marrone. Could attract a potentially incredible staff.

Not an elite NFL coach, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be an elite college one.

Give him total Saban-like control and he's one of the few coaches that might actually know what to do with it. He would represent us really well and bring stability and toughness. Can he recruit? That would be the question. But if Butch could do it I feel like anybody can.

Just a couple cents to throw around in the old noggin.

This is throwing a temper tantrum because Pruitt made the stupid decision to bet his career on JG and stuck so long with his useless buddy Friend at OL coach.

I understand why everybody is mad about that, but I absolutely refuse to believe this guy is a bad defensive coach. There has to be more to the regression on the defensive side than that. And there are many indicators of as to why..but people don't want to hear anything about reasons, they get mad and start screaming about "excuses".

Look...Pruitt brought a lot of this on himself...I know that, but I am just sick of this constant chaos. They need to fire Pruitt, he can't fix this now, then hire a good coach and hopefully someday this gets better.

I just do not want to be here again in 36 months..

You keep blaming fans for the mess, then throwing in "but Pruitt needs to be fired". You're playing both sides of the fence. This is completely on Pruitt and his decisions. And he's shown nothing to even hint he can fix this mess. The anger of fans is justified.

He’s failed the past three, what makes you think he’ll suddenly succeed in year 4?
First year shouldn't count for anybody with a brain and an honest heart, and last year was not a failure, it may not have been a ragi g success, but it was only a failure to complete idiots, so that just leaves the really bad failure of this year...

I will concede this year, but that's it, and that's enough.

Who still show up in force, year after year, game after game, for a sh¡+ product put together by an admin who take our loyalty for granted year after year, only to have national media members to lambast, ridicule, and perpetuate that sentiment.

We have one of the most loyal fanbases in all of sports and we get crapped on by everyone.

Seriously...GRjr can stick it with that comment.

Every fanbase has their turds but, we are FAR AND AWAY one of the most disrespected fanbases anywhere.

I'd rather have Herman or Napier than Marrone or O'Brien. Rather have Bob Stoops over all of them, but we'll never chase the white whale, unwilling to take no for an answer like Bama did.
Stoops would be worth a Jimbo deal, but sadly the Admin doesn't care as much about winning as we do.

Our players and parents are fully, openly supportive of CJP. The ones actually putting all the work in along with their futures in his leadership. A National Championship winning AD fully supports CJP. The fans and a couple of administrators not so much. Unless you find level 1’s wrap this up and give the man another year to do his job.
What would you even think remotely constitutes bringing him back? What has he done to be successful here?

So losing to Georgia st and BYU at home, blow out loses to fla, Georgia and Bama don’t constitute a failed season? That should always be considered a failed season at Tennessee.

Same reasons as Gruden? Wait...When was Garrett a GA here? Which former UT cheerleader did he marry? He owns land in East TN? Any of his kids attend UT? :)

Kidding. Seriously, I think the real reason Gruden got so much talk was his genuine connections to UT.
