I guess our definitions of "proven" are a little different. Two bad organizations in the past 20 years. The NFL is built for parity, so aside from the Patriots, Colts, maybe Steelers, Packers, and Saints, you don't get sustained success. The common denominator with those franchises is a HOF QB. The average tenure for NFL coaches is very short.
That's fine - and I'm saying that Marrone is unequivocally a terrible coach. I just think that Tennessee needs to hire a guy who, whether it was at a good or a bad organization, had success as a HC at the P5 level. Marrone might be good, but we don't know, and he hasn't really demonstrated it at any previous stop.

Maybe that's a harsh judgment because he's coached at places, especially Jax, where decisions were made above him that made his job really difficult. But I think it's where Tennessee is as a program. Marrone, whether it was his fault or not, hasn't really proven anything. It isn't like he was good at Syracuse, Buffalo, or Jax for a numbers of years before struggling or being forced out. He was up and down at a G5 program, appeared to be doing well at Buffalo then bolted, then had flash in the pan success at Jax.

If he is thought of as truly a great coach that just happens to have coached at tough places, then I'd expect him to get interest from another NFL team and stay in the NFL.

Tennessee history says they won't have anyone lined up, but they went quick when they hired Rick Barnes. It's Tennessee so anything is possible.

It's happening guys. The investigation is going to take Pruitt. But fully expecting the Admin to screw up the hire so can't get too excited.

I’ll get excited for anyone. I can usually buy in for a year until I see what they look like. We just need change.

I think the reason Tennessee was able to hire Barnes so quickly, outside of his relationship with Hart, was that there just aren't as many cooks in the kitchen with a basketball decision. All these boosters simply care more about football, and are more opinionated about football. With basketball, they are more likely to just let the AD handle what they consider to be not as important of a decision.

If we don’t have anyone lined up then we just give Chaney interim status and move forward. No need to repeat a Dooley mistake again when Kippy Brown should have been interim.

Yeah, looking at the career leaders it's going to be nearly impossible to reach those numbers without clocking 10+ seasons. But if Henry can maintain his current production (5 YPC + 300 carries) he could be close in 10-12 years, he's such a rare breed at RB I'm not sure when we'll see him decline.
That he is such an integral part of their offensive scheme is a rarity in this era...I’ll agree. But I see a similarity to Earl Campbell’s career arc in Henry.
