I don't see Marrone doing it. He was 25-25 at Syracuse and has a .388 winning percentage in the NFL.

Did you look at Syracuse’s record for the 5+ years before he got there and notice that it was a rebuild job? Did you notice that stint at Syracuse also included a conference championship? Sometimes you’ve got to dig past the 25-25 a little bit.

If they’re going to keep Pruitt or let him go, they need to come on with it. I agree with everything Josh Pate said. You can’t just leave the guy dangling in the wind.
At this point, I have a feeling that legal has tied their hands on doing or saying anything.

You mean 9-23 (Gase in NY) and 33-31 (Lynn in LA) coaching records are comparable???
Lol I swear the concept of looking past the record is like speaking in tongues around here.

The Chargers is the most coveted open coaching position for a reason. They have a playoff caliber roster right now.

Lynn has had a franchise QB every year he has been there and never did squat except snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Marrone has never even met a franchise QB in Jacksonville. Hell they don't have any decent players at all.

Gase is basically the same but sucks worse than any other coach I've seen.

We discussed Doug Marrone 3 weeks ago. I didn't like him then and still don't really think he would win big here. He feels like a coach that would probably go 7-5 or 8-4 for a couple of years and jump back to the NFL. He's buddies with Fulmer but that doesn't mean he'd be loyal to UT. It'd take me a while to get excited about him and he'd have to hire a good mix of coaches that are 70% coaches/ player developers and 30% SEC level recruiters. I think Marrone would be better than Pruitt but I don't think he would be here longer than 2-3 years.

TN really needs to announce one way or another, sometime this week, about the future of our football program. I'm wanting something to happen but I'm getting to the point that I don't care one way or another. My participation on VN has lowered and I'm really losing my steam with this whole mess.

Give me something to be excited about UT!

It isn't great NFL experience though. Looked like he was getting Buffalo turned around, but bolted after just 2 years because he had that out in his contract. Ends up in Jacksonville and had a great first season, but evidently that was a flash in the pan. Marrone has no P5 HC experience, and his last experience in the SEC was an an offensive line coach 20 years ago.

At this point, I really think Tennessee's only way out is hiring a guy with P5 HC experience. Take as much guesswork out of the equation as possible, because our people have proven time and time again that they cannot successfully identify an up-and-comer.

I am just of the belief that the NFL is really big boy business. Aside from recruiting, if you can handle an NFL roster (winning seasons at Buffalo and Jacksonville) then you can scheme and handle a roster of young people. Sure, there are different demands with younger people. Buffalo is winning now, but that was the best season it had in a while, and he took a Jacksonville dumpster fire to an AFC Championship Game.

Aside from Hugh Freeze, we aren't hiring a coach with prior P5 experience. Not Campbell, and I don't even think Fickell would come. He makes 3.4 at Cincy and can wait on what he wants.

Don’t say 8-4 and 3rd place in the East, somebody may have to get a new sock.

Marrone should only be considered as replacement for Friend at best.

So, a stabilizer??

Kind of what we need right now.

He wouldn’t be my first choice, but I wouldn’t hate it.
