Tom Herman thread [merged]

Sark coaching in the NC doesn’t seem like the right call to me. If you’re going to head another program then you should be all in for that program.

Let’s save ourselves the drama and just go ahead and acknowledge that Tennessee isn’t going to be a major player in the coaching sweepstakes this year or next. Sark is off the market, Kiffin just got a multi year extension and raise from Ole Miss today, Chadwell got an extension at CCU and as I said before, UT won’t even look in Freeze’s direction. I’d be willing to bet someone locks down Fickel before we even pick up the phone. So then our options look like Malzahn, Herman, Napier, Muschamp (bwaahaahaa), Derek Mason, Lovie Smith. If we do nothing this year, we’re sucking hind teet next year behind USC, Michigan and possibly LSU all looking for new coaches. Make your call.

The only thing I will say is they had a plan. Got rid of Herman and hired Sark in the same day. No protracted coaching search, no allowing people to spin this into a raise for themselves. Who knows of it will work, but that is the way to handle this.

Texas and their fans will be wondering in two season why they hired Sarkisian so quickly and didn't interview anyone else.

Yeah! Let’s all quit on Tennessee completely because then we’ll definitely have the resources to fix the situation....
The lesson Tenn should have learned by now is not to fire the coach until you have a replacement already ready to slide in that chair. Texas fired and hired on the same day....no long drawn out cat/mouse game begging some 3rd rate head coach to please come to the dumpster fire.

I don't think they had much of a plan. It looks like they did because it seemingly happened so fast, but the reality is that Texas has been looking to fire Herman for at least a month. And when they were looking at Meyer, it made sense. That they hired Sark tells me that they knew that Herman saw the writing on the wall and couldn't risk letting him go full heel in the offseason, and made the move to get a guy who's not going to be a total departure from what Herman was. Texas, in it's current state is not a job you say no to, save for maybe like 8 coaches.
