I'm not at all saying Pruitt DESERVES to stay. Not at all. I'm saying the "whole picture" includes the extension and raise which makes him much harder to fire. Fulmer screwed us. BOTH need to go and that's a lot of money.
It's not that I want Pruitt. It's that it's not that easy to say to the money folks: Yeah, we know you bought off Butch for about $10 million just 3 years ago but....... here we are again......
I understand your point. Yes, it is expensive to continuously hire and fire bad coaches and there is no guarantee we get it right this time. It's well stated.
IMHO, we know Pruitt is not the answer, while there are not guarantees, there are viable coaches with proven records available. Everyone has their preferred candidate from Freeze, Gus, Chadwell, Fickell and etc.
I think any of those would get us back to 9 - 10 wins a year giving Tennessee a great return on investment from paying Pruitt to leave.
