After talking to a couple people this morning, I believe Pruitt will return.
I was told yesterday he was done and there would be announcement by Friday but this morning things changed dramatically. I do not think it is over but if I had to put a percentage on it I would say it’s 60/40 he returns. Pruitt has had conversations with the decision makers and presented a solid plan that included direction of his staff, making instate ‘22 class and beyond more of a priority, and adding some ‘21 transfers to this class. The biggest part of his plans is focusing on being a head coach and delegating more to his staff both on the field and off. There were several relationships that have been damaged that need repaired on Pruitt’s and the University’s side. I am told this is Plowman’s decision to make. She has counseled with many including Fulmer, BOT, former players and current boosters. Again, no decision has been made. Could come at any time between now and Sunday but I do believe Pruitt returns unless something very damning comes out of the investigation and at this point I believe it to be minor. I do believe an assistant coach could be the fall guy.
Like I said these things are fluid (although some can’t wrap their mind around that) and can take unexpected turns. I didn’t see any way after what all I was told he could be back but here we are. After hearing all this and the candidate pool, I believe it is best he returns next season. I do believe they will give him every resource to be successful next season within reason. I also believe that his seat will remain hot and he will need to show a lot of progress next season. If he is not I believe they will move swiftly and have a plan in place. They were not prepared for this season to be as bad as it was along with all the off the field issues. Again, it’s not completely over and nothing would surprise me at this point but I believe Pruitt returns.
Flame away.
In all honesty 8-4 should be standard, but sadly 8-4 would look leaps and bounds better than this past year. I just don’t know how we get there. Here's a question. What record will it take for you guys to believe in Pruitt next year?
8-4?
9-3?
For me, if he's not 8-4 or better he HAS to be fired. But who knows with Phil...
Bro, you're preaching to the choir. I want to make a change. But we aren't going to. I'm just trying to provide some talking points of optimism because I don't want to go 4-8 next year. I want to win as many games as we can.
We have been deserted by our lords @Atlanta VOL and @MetalVolunteer unfortunately
Except I don't believe this. It's all a cover up to being wrong. They were going to keep Pruitt from the get go. He was never going to be let go.
A. Didn't someone post Pruitt hasn't even met with anyone in the admin today?
B. Where is the vote of confidence ? Not that hard to do and if you are keeping him why wait?
C. Why are other schools hiring and firing folks during holiday break? Reports were Pruitt was told to hold off on an offensive line coach.
D. Pretty sure AV would just come out and say it if he was 100% coming back.
Great he took a rag tag group of four , five star players , and made good. Some of you need to actually research things first:
"In 2014, Pruitt joined the Georgia coaching staff as the defensive coordinator. His 2014 defensive unit finished 17th nationally in total defense, and finished in the top ten in turnover margin and passing yards allowed. Pruitt's 2015 unit at Georgia finished the season ranked seventh nationally in total defense, and led the nation in fewest passing yards allowed per game."
He absolutely improved the UGA defense from the year before he was there.
Bob_Vols at 247 (Replying to a post about Gus coming to UT):
Gus wants to take a year off. There wasn’t enough support for Napier and Chadwell. Freeze wasn’t going to happen this year. Some want to see if he can sustain success a bit longer with no mishaps. He would be a more realistic candidate next season imo
Yeah, sounds pretty made up to me. Not enough support for the national coach of the year in Chadwell? Not enough support for a guy that is 21-4 the last two years in Napier that has his schools only two 10 win seasons in their history? Both of those two also happen to be from Tennessee? I think he is just making it up.Not enough support for Napier, but there is for Pruitt. lol holy hell
Now that's fair. Younger guys don't have the body size to hold up as well. But imo they are more talented than what our upper classmen are.You are putting a lot of stock in very young players trying to play the bulk of snaps and make an impact in this league at positions where it just simply doesn’t happen all that often.
You want young guys *assuming they have the frame and explosiveness* to be your rotational fresh guys. Not your workhorses on the DL/edge
But yet our fans will continue to think this doesn't happen.AP and Hubbs have been saying a lot of recruits are reading the board and that fan response is hurting the recruiting. I wouldn't typically care, but if this staff is coming back, we need to land that in state class next year. It is loaded and could change the direction of the program.
Sheep, understand that you can be out on the state of the program and still be a fan. You don’t have to root for mediocrity, you don’t have to root for incompetence. It’s your choice wether you follow blindly or want something better. It works both ways. Don’t question people’s fandom because they don’t have the same outlook. I’ve been a fan for 25 years, I’m out on the state of the program, I want what’s best for the Tennessee football. Whatever way, shape, or form it comes in.
Brian Johnson would be an awesome hire. Great Offensive mind, high energy guy, super person.I’ll Play Keep Gump:
- Fire neids. Hire a proven developer at DL and OL coach .... idc about their ties or recruiting potential. hire a LB coach that matches this scheme. DL and OL coaches are the Most important assistants imo.
- Pruitt take back over calling the defense. You were billed as an elite DC... prove it.
- fire Chaney. Hire a more spread/power OC with more QB friendly passing concepts. (A couple random names that i could get behind: FL QB coach Brian Johnson and Arizona State OC Zack Hill. Research them... you’ll like what you find)
- get a transfer QB. Idc from where. Idc what star. Idc what level. Someone who has been productive as a starter somewhere.
That’s all i got.
If we were guaranteed to hire Freeze next year if Pruitt failed, then I'd be all in for giving him another year.
Problem is, there are no guarantees.
