Didn’t read all your post but I’m of the opinion we will not challenge for the East in 2021-22. I also believe Pruitt will be here thru 2022 unless we tank next year like we did this year. It's pretty simple, I think.
He has to challenge for the East. Serious challenge, one that either we win, or remains close right up to the last game or two of the season.
I don't know if that translates into 9 wins, or 8, or 10, but that's what it will take.
This season was--or would have been, in a normal year--a 6-6 result. Add three cupcakes, take away one harder game, and you have a "normal" schedule, a schedule just like every team in the SEC plays, every year. So, 6-6.
Which is not as horrific as some of you portray, with all the hair you're pulling out and gnashing of teeth you're enjoying. Don't get me wrong, 6-6 is certainly not good. It is _not_ where we should be in Year 3. He failed, this season. Specifically, he lost to Kentucky and Arkansas, two games he absolutely should not have lost. He stuck with JG too long. He didn't have the offensive line as developed as their collective natural talent indicated they should be. The receivers weren't getting open. The defensive backs were spotty at coverage, both man-on-man and zone. All parts of the team made dumb mistakes far too often, resulting in both penalties and turnovers.
So sure, we should've been much farther along in Year 3 than we were. But it still wasn't as bad as some here are making out. It wasn't "the worst season ever." It wasn't close to that. It wasn't nearly as bad as Butch's last season (remember: we did have 3 cupcake games that year, and still went 4-8...Under coronavirus conditions, that would've been a 1-9 year).
So, all that said, Pruitt's in a dog house. Yes, with Phillip Fulmer. Who loves Tennessee a helluva lot more than he likes Pruitt, though I do think he likes him just fine. Who, I believe (though I could be wrong here) actually loves Tennessee even more than he loves his own well-being. And would sacrifice himself for the program, if it came to that.
So I don't think Fulmer would have any trouble firing Pruitt & Co. if we don't see success in Year 4.
And the undeniable definition of Success in year 4 of a proud program with our lineage is being back. Back to challenging for championships.
Nothing less will do.
We all saw it every game JG played. As did Pruitt and he did nothing but keep say JG gave us the best chance to win which was obviously false. Pruitt mismanaged the QB situation and this season.I certainly did not think we would win three that’s for sure. But no one saw the train wreck at quarterback.
I agree but it’s not going to happen before the bowl game and likely not before a year from now. Only reason it happens before next season is if the NCAA violations are serious and we fire Pruitt for cause. That is also unlikely. This is just opinion, I hope I’m wrong on every point.Well, whoever it is, it is time to pull the trigger.
You knew before the season that we have catastrophic qb play? I didn’t hear anyone call it. Most were optimistic about the qb room. I didn’t hear anyone saying anything before the second half of the Georgia game.We all saw it every game JG played. Preseason predictions or not, JG shouldn’t have started another game after Kentucky and maybe even UGA. That much is obvious. Pruitt mismanaged the whole thing. HB should’ve been getting in game snaps from the start. This year didn’t count against eligibility. You knew before the season that we have catastrophic qb play? I didn’t hear anyone call it. I think most of us who were optimistic thought one of the three backups would send JG to the bench before the season. I even thought Kasim Hill might have been a sleeper pick to win the starting position. You knew before the season that we have catastrophic qb play? I didn’t hear anyone call it. 9 and win the East. How many wins saves his job next year?
Try to remember this isn’t what the fans think should be the number. I think 9 should be the floor. This is what we think the university will actually require. This goes beyond Fulmer. I believe the administration simply doesn’t care. I think my university is so inept and cares so little about winning that 7 and maybe even 6 gives us another year of CJP.
And the garbage continues.
Starting HB at that point would have been the worst thing at that time and would have been a disaster. He was a deer in the headlights in his first mop up duty and would have been in trouble if they were really coming after him. In his starts he is making many mistakes and the game is a little too fast for him.Preseason predictions or not, JG shouldn’t have started another game after Kentucky and maybe even UGA. I agree it probably would have happen, but the meltdown came at the worst time given the limited practice.I think most of us who were optimistic thought one of the three backups would send JG to the bench before the season. Never said start I said get playing time. Which he could’ve. Starting HB after Kentucky wouldn’t have been any worse win/loss wise than JG. Better a young QB to make mistakes and learn than an old one making the same ones over and over.Starting HB at that point would have been the worst thing at that time and would have been a disaster. 0. Doesnt’ matter what his record is. The extension ensured that he will be here for the next 2 years at least. Getting assistants this year will require at least a 2 year contract, so buyouts would again stop any thoughts of cleaning house. Pruitt through 22.How many wins saves his job next year?

I won’t be surprised if UT try’s to make that argumentI don't even think it's fair to evaluate CJP on wins and losses. He's had some good first quarters. I'd just start there. How many games did we look competitive 15 minutes in? Go from there. Maybe in two or three years we start looking at halftime stats. You see where I'm going. If recruiting goes good and we have stability, we can start looking at the wins and losses in nine or ten years.
