Auburn is trying way too hard to be Tennessee. Firing a coach without a plan, then boosters start fighting. They're having a good search if you ask me.
Auburn only rivals Tennessee with this search if:
1. They sign a MoU with someone that deeply disappoints the fanbase (could be Steele). Fans revolt and they pull the offer.
2. Their AD embarks on a 10-day wild goose chase where they are linked with about a dozen different coaches, many of whom go on to get big raises. Gundy gets his customary, once-every-few-years raise.
3. After going AWOL for several hours, their AD is called back to Auburn, fired, and replaced with Tommy Tuberville, who turns down his Senate seat before even taking office.
4. Tommy appears to restore order and hires a name that actually is disappointing, but seems OK in light of how awful the search went (kind of like how our hire of Pruitt felt).
5. Sometime after the search, emails/texts are released in a public records request, some of which are Chad Morris all-caps texts about how he wants to be considered for the job.
Tennessee needs to stay on top at something - might as well be #1 at crazy coaching searches.
