If fired we will suck another Four years

When Pruitt was hired, around 9 coaches had already turned down the job. What makes you all think that a top notch proven coach will come here next?

Nine?? I believe the 9 were Dave Doren (thank goodness), Jeff Brohm (who would have came if we hadn't went cheap on his buyout), Mullen, and Gundy. That's 5 short of 9. If Florida lands Chip Kelly, Mullen is head coach here and we're probably winning the East this year.

Please name a coach that had to redo his entire coaching staff and became truly successful. Nope, most like Dooley, Butch, and Muschamp get fired the very next year. That’s almost certainly the way this will turn out.

Can you give me a reason to hope that Pruitt will let Chaney have free reign over the O? I have seen Chaney produce high scoring O's. I haven't seen him tolerate a QB that plays like JG... which bolsters my suspicion that Pruitt dictated that choice.

UT will lose OL's next year. There may be a ready made excuse that UT is "rebuilding" the OL. There are always excuses. If left to his own devices... you'd probably see Chaney do what he did in '12. Teach the OL to pass block and throw the ball. Pruitt's philosophy has been the opposite. He wants to run 60% of the time and win with defense. So convince me that Pruitt is going to abandon what he believes.

Actually, this is one of the better years since Fulmer was fired for UT to conduct a coaching search. There is good young talent on the roster at an acceptable level of individual development. An announcement within the next 2-3 weeks would help salvage a decent recruiting class that fills needs.

Kiffin inherited a roster with big talent holes and no depth. Many of his recruits did not work out.

Dooley inherited a roster heavily dependent on young players for the first two years and then recruited weakly.

Jones inherited a roster that was likely better than either of the first two but proved very capable of underperforming talent. By the time he got the "5 years to install his system and recruit his players"... the roster was as bad as it was when the whole mess started once you factor in the poor development. Recruiting fell off considerably.

If fired now... the next coach inherits a good, young roster and a good recruiting class.
One interesting thing. We’ve not hired a coach with a record of rebuilding anything since Majors. Butch merely followed Kelly twice.

We have the advantage of little competition in the job market. Most teams are playing about half a schedule, and don’t have the boosters willing to pay to make it stop. We might be one of the best jobs open.

Don’t fire Pruitt unless we are certain we can get an upgrade. But that is almost 100% certain.

It makes no sense to fire Pruitt now. Unless you know for sure you can get Freeze. It's going to take a big name hire to save this years recruiting class and build momentum for next years class. We are between a rock and a hard place.

"If fired we will suck for another four more years" If retained, we will too. so what's the difference?

With the right coach, it can get turned around! Look at what Saban did with LSU and Bama. Look what Spurrier did with Florida. The right coach can turn a program around! We just have to stay the hell away from these "discount" coaches and get someone who can do the damn job! Someone proven and not some "up and coming" person!

Better hope for one more year and a new QB will fix this! If you fire him who will you get? They still want have the money to get a big name coach. Jim Chaney with a capable QB can get it done.

No No No
Tennessee’s problems run much deeper than the QB position, much deeper
Wake up Vol fans

Freeze will have this place rocking next year.

Absolutely. FREEZE Is a Football Coach., The Man knows OFFENSE. We have the QB (HB) to compete with anyone; given proper coaching and Schemes. Chaney needs to retire and visit a physical rehab facility. How can anyone take him seriously? He obviously makes bad decisions. As for Pruitt, that second half "Adjustment" vs Uf that they "Thought about" making but didn't ; and wished they had---------Isn't that enough? Dis-functional on Defense; and He is the Guru? More poor decisions.

The "who will you get" crowd has to be the worst when discussing reasons not to fire an incompetent coach.

I dont think we fire another coach this soon. We will be forever the 3 year coaching job. But We DONT under any circumstances except a Natty grant another extension. Why in the F we did that this season is beyond me. We shouldnt reward mediocrity. nobody wanted him this season except maybe some crappy mid levels. WHY give him an extension?? I Just dont get it

I submit that keeping him one more year IS rewarding mediocrity.

This is the same argument for the last decade
