If fired we will suck another Four years

We've sucked more often than not for nearly 20 years. WTH would 4 more mean? Just take another blind shot in the dark and hire Chadwell and his entire staff. How much worse could things get? At least you could get a cheaper staff to buy out the next time around.
To be exact over the last 11 years we have had 4 winning season so yea we have nothing to lose.

Responses in this thread are just bewildering. The best possible outcome (unlikely as it might be) is for the light to somehow come on for Pruitt and we end up having a successful season next year. Another coaching search will undoubtedly set us back again. How is this idea the least bit controversial?

Do I believe it's going to happen? Not necessarily. But that's not the point OP was making.

I think if the right coach is hired, we climb quickly - 2 years we could challenge for division with Ga.

There is talent on this club thanks to Pruitt. The right coach can develop that talent and add his own recruits to round out a very competitive team in 2 years.

If we keep him it’ll be even longer. The guy clearly doesn’t have what it takes.

When Pruitt was hired, around 9 coaches had already turned down the job. What makes you all think that a top notch proven coach will come here next?

UT wanted to pay <$4 million for a coach. We got exactly what <$4 million a year gets you.

Put the cash up, and we'll have plenty of options..

Whether it is the best or not, it is also the most unlikely of scenarios. Nothing about Pruitt's behavior or personality lends any credence to hoping that he will suddenly manifest HC abilities if he's just given more time.

Better hope for one more year and a new QB will fix this! If you fire him who will you get? They still want have the money to get a big name coach. Jim Chaney with a capable QB can get it done.
Just kill this thread and send Hugh Freeze the sign-on deposit—PayPal, Venmo, Cash app... I don't care. Do it tonight!

We will suck for 4 years regardless of keeping Pruitt or not.
No one with any leadership over the program cares or knows enough to get it right.

Feel ya, explain one thing you’ve seen from this coach that says we are going in the right direction as a team. Not your opinion a definitive fact. One.

OP is right only if Pruitt is fired and they don’t hire Freeze or another big name. Considering UT has been one of the worst programs at conducting coaching searches for football there is no indication it will get better if Pruitt is let go. And I’d love more than anything to be wrong about this one...

1) WE SUCK NOW. Have for most of 12 years. How exactly would not solving the problems solve the problems?

2) Chaney has 4 QBs to work with, three of whom have been here at the entire time that he has, and he hasn't developed one. But he's suddenly going to develop another one?

3) There are excellent football coaches at all levels who are good at their job and also know how to be a good leader of men, who would crawl across a broken field of glass in their underwear to be the coach at Tennessee.

It boggles the mind that there are people who will say "help we're on fire; please don't put the fire out!"

I keep hearing people say over and over again we have to hire a big name.

No.

We MUST hire a good, qualified candidate.

I’ve heard people state we were good at the skill positions and not so much everywhere else. After Dobbs left our lack of talent in the OL/DL’s were in full display.
I think looking back on it that is what makes Dobbs so special is the fact he gave us a little bit of joy in amongst this awful decade. I think people say yea we have had it rough but they don't know just how rough it truly has been. When you look at the numbers it just sum up what has become our dark reality. When I look at those numbers I ask myself the question does Fulmer realize just how bad we have been and if something doesn't change will cont. to be. It something that is mind blowing that we have only had 4 winning season the last decade that is beyond bad that just plain sad.

Oh, I agree. I've never been high on Pruitt and he's done nothing to win me over. I just think OP was saying that the best thing that could happen is that we somehow get better with Pruitt. Because a coaching change is going to set us back even further. And I think he's got a point. Maybe it's just wishful thinking. But so is the idea that we're going to go out and hire a messiah who will come in and make all of our dreams come true.
