Stuff like being overly involved with the hiring of assistant coaches? He’s not teachable and you know this. He’s one of the biggest hard heads I have ever come across in my life and I deal with some folks who think they know everything. All of the warning signs and red flags were there when we hired him...this is why it will be Fulmer who won’t be able to make it through this thing. His attempted micromanagement style of the football program as well is something that is and will be of great concern for folks as well. Not many coach’s are going to want to come in and deal with some of the stuff JP has had to deal with from that aspect.
How in the hell did he make it through the interview process then? Those traits are something interviewers pick up on right away! Ethics, moral and other things are generally traits that come out after the fact. You’d think that proper vetting and simply talking with him multiple times would have shown Fulmer his true colors?!?He’s not teachable and you know this. @LA Vol give me your top 3-5 coaches you would go after that you think would fit and be successful at UT? Who would you hire as PF’s replacement?I do know this. Casey sometimes reads here, so I try to be diplomatic. Absolutely the warning signs and red flags were there when we hired him-- and I've said over and over that his personality and style are what they've always been. Couple that with the dynamics and learning curve at a place like UT, where winning is expected and fans are impatient, and we're where we are. And I agree that Fulmer won't get a mulligan.
Yep. I don't think it is a coincidence that both Belichick and Saban assistants have been hit-or-miss at best as head coaches. Saban is very good at identifying and training people to do exactly what he tells them to. Essentially, he hires really good employees. People who want to work, who he trains to do certain things for him, etc. He's so good at identifying these people that the operation never misses a beat even though it has insanely high turnover. It's the same thing with Belichick assistants in the NFL. They rarely can beat him. And his program just keeps humming along.
Just say no to the up and coming Bama assistants from now on.
Do you think Pruitt wants out?I do know this. Casey sometimes reads here, so I try to be diplomatic. Let me be clear on one point....JP is not insecure...butch was....
He was like candidate #43 and he had a list. How in the hell did he make it through the interview process then? Those traits are something interviewers pick up on right away! Was Fulmer desperate?
The above is a given and we know we're going to overpay. How receptive do you think coaches are going to be, money aside?Agents will demand high pay, multi-year contracts, big buyouts if they're fired and no/low buyouts if they want to leave, then they'll want to sweeten the deal with bonuses and concessions before trying to scratch any boilerplate clause that's favorable to UT. A call from UT is like being handed a powerball ticket. Just ask Chaney and Ansley how sweet leverage is.
He's talking about this team, not the program. The team is a brotherhood. They will stand up for their brothers, as they should.
I can attest to Butch being insecure, I met him, shook his hand a looked into his eyes and I knew. He was scared, that was the day we played Ohio and barely scraped a win out.Let me be clear on one point....JP is not insecure...butch was....
Ive never gotten to talk to him because I was working, but ive seen Pruitt at a few events outside of UT. This is the vibe I got as well. I remember a few months after he was hired he was at an event, and I kid you not when I say he spent more time walking around in the hallway on his phone then he did in the room he was supposed to be in. The second time he was in there and somewhat trying, but honestly had a look like he could care less about being there.I can attest to Butch being insecure, I met him, shook his hand a looked into his eyes and I knew. I've never met Pruitt but he strikes me as pompous and arrogant.
