Brian Maurer throwing shade on twitter

I saw that a little while ago on a Facebook page. I’ll say here the same thing I said there… Go F yourself Mauer. It’s not your team either bro. Many of us were spending our four earn money on tuition, game tickets, or memorabilia 20 years before he was even born. We have every right to express our opinion.

Hahahahaha. Wow. I know no one wants to hear from me but I don’t care because eff UT. I read pretty much all SEC teams message boards from time to time. I freely admit this is one of the best but this preposterous idea that fans have ANY negative impact is beyond absurd. Here, I’ll show you!

It’s the dumbest sh*t I’ve ever heard in my life thinking rabid fans actually negatively affect the program to where UT is. So so so dumb. And I will say at least the intelligent posters here can see how dumb it.

Also, definitely kinda weird some of these “Gator,” fans post so much on here! I agree with the smart Vol posters on that! Off to my SECe winning Gator board! Go Gators!

A few minutes on from seeing that post - it looks worse on Pruitt as the leader of that organization than it does the kid. ... and it's not a good look at all for the kid.

Real Leaders lead inside the locker room not social media. His best way to lead is to become the best player he can be, not a social media crusader.
You’re not expected to understand how impossible that is until you’ve seen it for yourself. If he’s not given the opportunity to go to battle WITH his teammates, is it so hard to understand that he could feel the need to battle FOR them?

So you let a 20 y/o football player get under your skin enough to tell him to go **** himself on social media? And people say Brian is immature... 🤣🤣

How old are you again?

Sounds like he's talking to you @PulaskiVolFan
Sounds more aimed at the NegaVol faction of the fanbase, the worst group in all of football. He started all this over the hate JG and the team were getting on social media. This was brought up in a thread last night by guess who. Get em right before you come at me.

So let me clear this up for him. YOU are the ones he’s talking to. Not the majority of the fan base that’s mature enough to handle what the team is going through.

He gone.

I like Maurer, but I think he transfers after this season. Shrout loves Knoxville and is OK with being backup, so he stays. Bailey is the front-runner to start next season, so he stays. Salter is a recruit and he'll stick. But I think Maurer is gone.

As far as what he said, he's both right and wrong. These guys get a ton of unfair criticism from couch warriors. At the same time, none of this stuff would exist without the fans, so you have to take the bad with the good.

But personally, I think Maurer would be better off somewhere like Memphis or USF; a school where he'd have a chance to start, but wouldn't have the same media pressure as an SEC program. He's too attuned to what people are saying on social media and that's not good for your mental health. But you're never going to escape that in Knoxville or Baton Rouge or Athens, etc.

I will sum this up very simply for these young men. Life is hard and if fans posting negative comments get you bent out of shape the real world after sports is going to be damn near impossible. You better get some thick skin or you will be very disappointed moving forward.

We are all upset and disappointed in this year, and Brian I think is a good guy and been thru a lot, he will mature during the year he is going thru.
But, can you imagine how he feels, seeing JG play like he has and JP sticking with him? We have been frustrated, and I know I have said couple immature things about JG, but come on lets give him a break.
No, he does not understand and that generation of kids thinks it is all about them in every aspect of life. He has represented TN football well, and actually I doubt that he has ever been coached on how to be a loyal player to the fans and university. We assume they have, but we also assumed they were better prepared to play this year.

Sage advice for all....

College football is Big Boy football. As someone mentioned earlier, it should work both ways. Why is it that even when UT has been awful they still pack that big ass stadium? Why don’t they sign more 5 star recruits every offseason when all I hear is how this is their year? When the fans are optimistic and excited? Call it what you want but it’s one of the most dedicated fan bases I’ve ever seen and now I feel dirty saying positive things about UT but *** the narrative of “negavols” being the reason is beyond idiotic. You are gonna get some serious **** playing on the biggest stage in college sports. Some from opposing fan bases, and yes, some from your own. Part of the deal. If you are all in your feels about fans being unhappy about a poor product they pay for with their time and money well you might want to find something else to do.

Who has thinner skin and is more like a snowfake?
A 20 year old student//athlete who probably realizes he said something on social media that he should have worded differently,
Or 40 year old guys acting all butthurt because a 20 year old said something that offended them?

This seems to be the pattern with the players on this team. No respect for the fans. We saw that this summer with Trey Smith’s comment. They have no clue that we were here long before them and will be long after they leave. But if they want it that way.... ✌🏼

Agreed.

I've always thought the fan aspect an interesting one. "You (players, coaches) are not here without the fans".

While, Neyland, Cafego, Lauricella, Majors, Atkins, Kiner, Fulmer, White, Cobb, Webb, Manning, Witten ......are a few of the reasons why many are fans to begin with.
Without them and a host of others you re Vanderbilt with their fan base.

Maurer used poor judgment in posting that Tweet. He's a frustrated kid/young man. They make those types of mistakes sometimes. However, you're completely out of line.
