Bailey did fine and his mistakes were purely of the experience category. Everything else he showed he has the talent and ability to progress through his progressions and feel around the pocket.
As for Shrout, I noticed not just him but everyone else played with an extra gear when he was in. It basically looked like what we heard in offseason that something had clicked but Pruitt dumbass yanked him after one mistake vs KY. When you never know what could have been if the version of shrout we saw Saturday is what we could have seen vs Arky and Auburn. I feel bad for Shrout as he has never been given a fair shake. He showed out vs S Carolina then gets pulled really for no reason vs I think UAB. I bet he starts vs Vandy.
covid + buyout = Pruitt's 4th year
^^^This is the correct answer as to why Pruitt is being retained.
Amazing how many posters clamoring for a coaching change forget the athletic department $$$ losses (not just from football) sustained this year, with no guarantee that next year is going to be different.
@Bassmaster_Vol and @Catbone along with @Big Gucci Sosa are really the best posters on this board. Outside of our insiders. Can’t forget @Ron Swanson truly the GOAT.

Phil would do some last-minute maneuvering to keep his job if it became clear that Pruitt had to go, yes. He'd cut the cord if it came down to Pruitt's job or his. But he absolutely is going to keep him until he's exhausted every last option. You're right that they aren't old buddies, but they are so closely attached in a professional sense. It isn't like Currie hired Pruitt, then Currie was fired.I don't think Fulmer will let himself get fired over Pruitt. That doesn't make sense. They're not related or even old buddies. I would worry about this scenario if it was Cutcliffe, Tee, or a former player but not Pruutt
well, it's 10 days to the ESP and we knew there was going to be attrition, and have known it for months. And another one. That’s 3 decommits in a week.![]()
In my opinion, Dooley is the only one that was a bad hire in hindsight. Kiffin was EXACTLY what this fanbase wanted post-Fulmer, it's too bad a perfect run of events allowed for USC to come open and fall to him. He was going to take that job no matter where he was or how much his buyout was. I don't blame Hamilton for it at all.
But pivoting to Dooley instead of giving Cutcliffe the program was the killer. That one move explains exactly why we are where we are. Hamilton has said recently that a number of big name coaches were not interested in the job because they were convinced Kiffin was dirty and we were going to be left with sanctions in his wake. I believe him when he says that - I believe it was Muschamp and Wittingham who turned us down. But you allow the mess to force you to hire a .500 coach from Louisiana Tech just because his dad was a good coach 25 years prior. Hamilton did that because he didn't want Fulmer back around the complex and he knew he couldn't keep him away if Cutcliffe was the HC.
Butch was a fine hire - he was a proven winner at Cincinnatti and brought the kind of recruiting cheese this program needed at the time. He's a less intelligent Bruce Pearl. It was very close to succeeding.
Pruitt was a fine hire at the time as well - just because he's going to get fired does not mean the process didn't work.
yep., he sucked at seeing pressures.....but i agree, in general, his pocket *presents was pretty good for a true freshman....you can work with that. he needs some work in the off season, but i didn't see anything that scared me away from thinking he can be good for us....relatively soon. One thing I noticed of the few snaps I could actually stomach was that Bailey had actual pocket presents. Felt pressure, moved away from it. Something I have not seen in a UT QB in years.
