I honestly don't get the logic of the attention Hugh Freeze is getting here.

Did he win at Ole Miss? Quite a bit.
How did he win? He paid players and got caught.

Because of Nutt and Freeze, Ole Miss wound up on probation for 3 years, 4 years of some scholarships lost, and a post-season ban of 2 or 3 years, I think.

There's ZERO proof he can win in the SEC without cheating...... is there? If so, when did he win with a clean (by SEC standards) program?

Ole Miss was paying players long before he arrived and it wasn't coaches doing it. The assistant athletic director was giving players money. Ole Miss was lucky they didn't get worse.

That said, the NCAA has been neutered the last few years.

P.S. everyone cheats. Even Tennessee. You'll see a ton of secondary self reported violations of this. The company I was with, many years ago (20+) was part of such reports. They were literally paying players 5 times what the regular employees were paid for less or no work right around the time football players were first allowed to work. One former player who went on to have a decent NFL career was paid over 2000 dollars for 4 days "work" because he had a baby momma giving him grief.

Players get paid all over the landscape of college football, especially in the SEC. Also, everybody "cheats" to certain extents. Bama/Saban are world class cheaters and have a huge payroll for players. Where do you think all those shiny Dodge Chargers those boys drive come from?

Freeze has a great offensive mind and absolutely knows what to do with talent. To deny that is foolish.

You’re not paying attention to what he’s doing at Liberty and you’re pretending like what he presumably did at Ole Miss in recruiting isn’t par for the course in the SEC. We’ll never win without “cheating” in recruiting. Fulmer paid guys too.
Respectfully, Liberty isn't exactly playing SEC caliber coaching. Outcoaching Babers from Syracuse is hardly an SEC caliber win, nor should it be unexpected for a former SEC coach.

I'm not saying Freeze isn't a decent coach. I'm saying he's a marked man in the SEC because he was known to cheat EXTENSIVELY and poorly...... he got caught and Ole Miss paid dearly for it.

I'm not naive. I understand the SEC underbelly is muddy everywhere.

But if you hire a guy who is essentially an "ex-con" in SEC, you can expect the SEC to sniff around and poke around a little extra in your program.

I'm not that's what we're looking for.

Here’s the most realistic scenario. Pruitt will be back for 2021. Several staff will leave at the end of this season however and we will lose some recruits

Next year he is on a major hot seat and may not make it till the end of the season

Possible coaches to look at depending on timing and what their situation is at the time (in no order)
Freeze

I do think your concerns about him getting caught at Tennessee are valid. Personally, I think Tennessee is better at cheating than Ole Miss because of some unspoken systems we have in place. At least I hope so. Knowing what I know that transpired back in the 90s, the fact that we signed Bryce Brown, and seeing how well Pruitt has recruited despite no proven on-field success tells me that it goes on at Tennessee already.

As for what he's done at Liberty, for them to be 2-1 against the ACC is a big deal and they'd be 3-0 if NC State hadn't of blocked a game-winning FG. We're basically talking about a JUCO team beating ACC teams. That is a very significant accomplishment, IMO, up there with beating Saban 2 times while at Ole Miss.

That's a solid list and if we give Pruitt another year and it doesn't work out, coaches will respect that. The cupboard isn't bare anymore either... I think we'll get a big name coach with HC experience in the next search. I'd also add Urban Meyer and Scott Satterfield to the list. There's also some big names who could be available as OC within the next couple years including Kevin Sumlin, Jeff Brohm, Justin Fuente, Dana Holgersen, and Scott Frost.

As I'm thinking through this, I'm realizing just how greatly it would benefit us if things work out with Pruitt. Offensive gurus are a dime a dozen and having one as a HC doesn't guarantee success... defense is still important and good ones are becoming harder and harder to find.

That's what seperates Freeze from all the other offensive gurus... he always has a great defense to complement his offense.

For enough money Hugh will take the job — it will take at least $8-9 million per year — guaranteed for 6-7 years — rich boosters can make it happen
Friend said that he overheard a few boosters at the Honors Course talking about putting the needed funds together.

Some are born to lead! Some are born to say.. well, aight, ya know, high skew.. get paid, ride the wave and make excuses as to why he is leading a sub .500 program

That's my issue with Pruitt....the program is not a sub .500 one....the coach is and therefore well 2-6

True.

Freeze also led Ole Miss straight into multiple Level 1 violations, postseason bans, scholarship reductions, and stripped victories.
