How about if you were the best candidate and they hired someone black because diversity. It cuts both ways. One of the main reasons racism continues is people just won't let it die. Between actual racists and people who need to be able to scream "racism" as an excuse, society won't let it go the way of the dinosaurs. Attitudes need to change, but people of all colors need to be willing to bend. We're all human, and that's all that really matters.

The causal pattern is the other way around. People won't let talk of biases die BECAUSE THEY EXIST.

Plan 1) Act like it (sexism, racism, ageism) doesn't exist. Hide it. Ignore subconscious biases. Push it down deep and keep truckin'.

Plan 2) Accept subconscious biases exist IN ALL OF US. Spread awareness. Accept and fight subconscious biases at a conscious level.

The BIGGEST mistake is in thinking bias occurs at a purely conscious level, when it is typically at a subconscious level and affects everyone. Me, you, everyone. As a human acting on schemas, it is inevitable. But we have to be aware first and foremost.

Show me an example of it in the NFL or college and I’ll bring my own soapbox. Thought maybe Brian Flores with the Dolphins would be such a case but that’s looking inspired. How about Eric Bienemy getting passed over for Kliff Kingsbury? At the time it looked questionable but Kingsbury has done a good job. But Bienemy was interviewed and I don’t see how that can be a bad thing. Maybe you interview a Mike Tomlin and give him a chance.

In High School football, especially in Georgia where I spent most of my career, it happens all the time. Principals or Supt. pass over someone more qualified on a regular bases in favor of former colleagues or someone they know. Coaches of lesser ability who are great self promoters get hired and people shake their head . I'm not black, and I completely understand the thought that someone was passed over because of their race. I also know that it still happens, though not nearly as much as it once did. Anyone who hires someone or doesn't hire someone based on their race should be run out of the business. That being said, the implication that a white coach can't impact the lives of black athletes (which was my original point) is insulting and ludicrous and I could provide names of several hundred kids that would back that up.
Well that’s someone else’s manifesto...excuse me.

I regret linking that article now lol.

Aight y'all guess HBs stats Saturday vs Florida

I'll say... 12-20 136 yards 1 TD and 1 INT

Nah, back to back pick 6’s in the first qtr will kill anyone’s mojo. That L was all JG!
Still amazes me that some of y'all continue to give the rest of the team a pass for their bad play. It's a lazy take. The player is always responsible for his own bad "mojo". Must be nice to not have to accept responsibility for yourself.

We'll never get back to where we want to be as a program if the AD and coaches have the same mindset as some of our fans and think our problems can be blamed on one player. It would be an easy fix, but it's not the case for us..

Comparing to general population isn't the number worth discussing, in my opinion.

61% of college football players are black. 10.8% of college head coaches are black.

I hear ya. I mean it's like 100% of college women's basketball are women, I think. But 37% of the head coaches for women's college basketball are men, I think. So I guess you may want to address this issue too.

Just stirring the pot. :)

Unfortunately one player isn’t gonna beat FL. We’re gonna have to put up 35 at least to win.

Hell we could up 35 and lose by 17. You seen our defense? Me either, where they been?

Who’s says he can’t though? We just don’t know!..and our defense has been missing so I can’t argue that point...but what if?

What the h#!! yall smoking? We have only scored over 17 points 3 times this year and have done that in over 8 weeks. How does anyone think we're going to put up 35? @UTSuave’ I love ya brother but I don't think we need to start preparing for a victory this weekend. If it happens great!

Sorry just made me chuckle with all this talk...

Im not preparing for a victory no one said it was a definite win...you assumed that!...I’m just simply saying......WHAT IF

I'd like to open this up to folks who are older than me: what was it that made Fulmer successful here as head coach? I was four years old in 1998, my first real memories are the 2001 season, so I've really only seen this program come down.

Is it as simple as David Cutcliffe was just that good? I think that doesn't give Fulmer his due.

Is what he did here replicable in 2020?

We had ELITE offensive and defensive lines every single year.
recruiting and coaching them up.

Always could Gash in the run game.

You can just look through the NFL DRAFTS.

The skill positions were nasty but our backbone was we could block, stop the run and rush the passer against anybody

It depends in part who is self selecting into the coaching pool in the first place. Not all players go into coaching, obviously.

Was it Phil’s ability to identify those guys that was the real factor? Former offensive lineman and OL coach himself.

Maybe i should get hammered and start telling some good stories from my memory banks from my days with Lane...those were some of the greatest and wildest days in TN history. That might really get your blood boiling.

This isn’t bad for the program...it happened in the past. I didn’t name anyone or anything that is relevant to this team or this staff...
