Would you Sacrifice Basketball for Football?

Yes. Absolutely. No brainer. Football is what matters. Being called a Basketball School is the equivalent of being called a sissy. Football is the cash cow that makes all other sports possible.
Your posts are usually informed and spot on. This one is extremely uncharacteristic for you. Our football program can be mediocre and still generate millions in revenue

The basketball program has been at least as good, if not better, as a matter of consistency for most of my life (57 yrs)

So to answer the OP: HELL NO
Um' what stats are you looking at? We have like one SEC tournament title and have consistently been nobodies in this league. We've never won a title or even played in the final four.

Stats are meaningless without detail. Our basketball program was really good from mid 60s until late seventies...a little longer than our success from football during that span. Same is true for almost any decade except the 90s.

We’ve had a total of 9 first round NBA draft picks. Ever. Only one was really good.

And that doesn't matter either. My point is that we can be mediocre in football and still generate millions in revenue
This question is a crazy hypothetical anyways. I don’t think any sacrifices need to be made, but I would sacrifice basketball success for elite status in football. I also maintain the position that we are not a basketball school. We are far, far from it.

We aren't far, far, from it. I'm not saying we would ever be a "basketball" school as labeled, but we can commit to making sure we do every thing we can to be competitive nationally on an annual basis. We don't have to make the choice to sacrifice either. We can be good at both. We can be mediocre in football and really good/great in basketball and still generate millions upon millions

I think we are far from the label . Florida won back to back titles and they still aren’t a basketball school. I do agree we should always be competitive in basketball and one of these days a make Final four . My argument is not about the $$ aspect of the conversation, it’s more directed at those that think we are a “basketball school”.

No! No reason why we can’t have top ten basketball, baseball, and football programs. Aim high and things will get better. It all comes down to outbidding, more money, better recruits, better fan support, than the other teams. Like I’ve said before, UT can’t keep hiring projects and expecting national championships.

Won Sugar bowls in almost every decade you mentioned, as well as SEC titles.

Sacrifice basketball success for football success? Are you kidding me? I love basketball but...

...I'd sever up the basketball program into pieces and sink them to the bottom of a cenote at Chichén Itzá for a conference championship in football.

Where do you window lickers come from?
Not sure what window licker is but I question what kind of frog you have been licking.
Round ball at UT continues to be a point of pride. Coaches and players of football continue to be an imbarasment. Come visit reality. Quit casting pearls to swine you toad licking squirrel.
How about throwing yourself into a volcano to appease the football gods? Makes more sense than the suggestion of sacrificing an elite program...

Hell no. Basketball at UT has rich tradition and is one of my favorite parts of being a vol. TBA is one of the biggest stadiums in CBB and I love going to games there. I would never give up basketball for football.

In answer to the posted question.

Absolutely not. I also think the premise that either sport is a detriment to the other is ridiculous.

Bernard King was an all time great. Dale Ellis was really good. Allen Houston was really good. Reggie Johnson played a bunch of years, was a starter for many of them. We have two different ex-players currently starting for Philly. Ernie Grunfeld played in the league for a long time. Vincent Yarbrough was a starter in Denver for a couple of years

No. They've earned their place. Football hasn't.

That'd be like taking from the successful and giving it to the failures.

As in, go back to sucking in Basketball in order to be great in Football again, what say ye?

EDIT:. I know we all want to be great in both at same time...

If we could go a natty appearance in Basketball, I would be okay with 1-2 .500 seasons in Football. 100% you take that trade for the short term
