Your posts are usually informed and spot on. This one is extremely uncharacteristic for you. Our football program can be mediocre and still generate millions in revenueYes. Absolutely. No brainer. Football is what matters. Being called a Basketball School is the equivalent of being called a sissy. Football is the cash cow that makes all other sports possible.
Um' what stats are you looking at? We have like one SEC tournament title and have consistently been nobodies in this league. We've never won a title or even played in the final four. The basketball program has been at least as good, if not better, as a matter of consistency for most of my life (57 yrs)
So to answer the OP: HELL NO
Stats are meaningless without detail. Our basketball program was really good from mid 60s until late seventies...a little longer than our success from football during that span. Same is true for almost any decade except the 90s.Um' what stats are you looking at? We have like one SEC tournament title and have consistently been nobodies in this league. We’ve had a total of 9 first round NBA draft picks. Ever. Only one was really good.Stats are meaningless without detail. This question is a crazy hypothetical anyways. I don’t think any sacrifices need to be made, but I would sacrifice basketball success for elite status in football. I also maintain the position that we are not a basketball school. We are far, far from it.And that doesn't matter either. My point is that we can be mediocre in football and still generate millions in revenue
We aren't far, far, from it. I'm not saying we would ever be a "basketball" school as labeled, but we can commit to making sure we do every thing we can to be competitive nationally on an annual basis. We don't have to make the choice to sacrifice either. We can be good at both. We can be mediocre in football and really good/great in basketball and still generate millions upon millionsThis question is a crazy hypothetical anyways. I think we are far from the label . Florida won back to back titles and they still aren’t a basketball school. I do agree we should always be competitive in basketball and one of these days a make Final four . My argument is not about the $$ aspect of the conversation, it’s more directed at those that think we are a “basketball school”.We aren't far, far, from it. Won Sugar bowls in almost every decade you mentioned, as well as SEC titles.Stats are meaningless without detail. Not sure what window licker is but I question what kind of frog you have been licking.Where do you window lickers come from?
Bernard King was an all time great. Dale Ellis was really good. Allen Houston was really good. Reggie Johnson played a bunch of years, was a starter for many of them. We have two different ex-players currently starting for Philly. Ernie Grunfeld played in the league for a long time. Vincent Yarbrough was a starter in Denver for a couple of yearsWe’ve had a total of 9 first round NBA draft picks. Ever. Only one was really good.
