Any word from practice on QB reps

Pruitt updates Tennessee's QB situation for Alabama game
“We’ve repped several guys, and we’ll continue to do that as the week goes,” Pruitt said late Wednesday morning, “and as we get closer we’ll probably narrow it down to who exactly will be healthy enough and who’s ready to play.”

Nothing earth shattering, but this is the latest update.

Edit: At least he's not flat out naming JG the starter, which gives me some hope it will be someone else.

Nope. Pruitt has already announced JG as the starter.
He said he had to earn it. To my recollection, that's the first time he's said anything like that concerning JG this year.

I won't be surprised if he runs out first though I hope he doesn't. I won't be surprised if someone else runs out first. I will be surprised if someone else doesn't take significant snaps.

JG is obviously a good practice player. I honestly believe this game is going to be used to prep either Shrout or Bailey to be the starter from here on out.

So telling when that is said. We were supposed to be stacked at QB. He is a good kid, though. Maybe we are back to Champions of Life.

Who said we were stacked at QB? We have depth yes but we wrent anyehere close to being stacked. Shrout and Maurer likely wouldnt start at any ither SEC school besides maybe Vandy. Bailey is a FR. Look at the offer lists out of HS between all of our QBs. Its startling.

I would rather see Maurer than Shrout. I think that creates a real competition and contrast.

IMHO, I think HB would pretty quickly dispense with Shrout. I know... I know... My confidence was once growing in him. I LOVE a big arm. But watching that INT and then Pruitt saying that he forgot to put a man in motion too... I just wonder if he will ever catch up.

I just think with Maurers injury, his health issues and COVID really set him back. I could see him getting a shot maybe after the bye week though

I think it's really the only move he can make. The others haven't gotten the reps and a few days isn't enough time for the backups to get comfortable. Think JG starts. If he does well, they roll with him. If not, I think he will give reps to the other QBs that are able to play after Bama has a comfortable lead and has called off the dogs.

Let's face it, we aren't going to beat Bama. Focus on what's best for the rest of the season. Another Peterman debacle isn't what we need right now.
So instead of giving the reigns to what is the future of the program go ahead and give them to the QB who has been on campus 5 years and still hasn't progressed? How does that help us out in the future?

Its not a loser mentality. I highly doubt Pruitt is doing what I said. Its just the way it is. We could have 1997 Peyton Manning back there this Saturday and still lose by 3 TDs.
I’m calling BS on that. With Peyton we would have a good chance to win Saturday. All this team needs is a good QB they can believe in.

What a throw by Maurer https://t.co/2J4XAJfofU

Let's roll with this cat until HB is ready to show us something. HB has very few practices and reps as a Vol...period. He was quarantined for nearly all of our shortened fall camp. The kid has skills, no doubt. He doesn't yet know the playbook, protections, audibles, etc well enough to run our offense. CJP said Saturday when HB was in, they just called the handful of plays that they were sure he knew from practice. Thats how limited he has been....hope he is Peyton reborn later ...but he simply isn't ready yet. That said ...its time for some "Maurer Power"

I'm not saying Bailey shouldn't play. I'm just saying don't throw him to the wolves vs bama. That can really screw a young kids head up early. Not worth the risk in a game we have no shot of winning. Let JG take the lumps. Once the game is out of reach and bama takes the foot off the gas (probably mid 2nd quarter or early 3rd), get the backups, including Bailey some quality reps. Just wouldn't start him vs Bama. After Saturday, we get a bye week and Bailey and/or Maurer would be my focus going forward.

No argument here, but what's his physical status? Has he been practicing/getting reps? Hate to ask, but how's his mental status? Given our OL tendency to be throwing some look out blocks, I like his mobility and the options he gives us with his legs....if he's healthy. Just haven't heard much about him to date.

He had a hamstring injury but is healthy now...CJP said the injury put him behind as far as reps and playbook, but he was working to catch up. He has dressed and traveled for every game.

The mental stuff is nothing. It was depression awareness month, and the kid sought to bring light to that for others struggling with depression by him talking about it. He simply said he had dealt with depression before and had suicidal thoughts in his past....this is right after he got to play in 4 games for us, and did well for a rookie. The kid is fine, and should only be judged based on his play....there was some BS misinformation spread saying that HE was suicidal or attempted it...BOTH are false.
