I really don’t know how Mears landed King. I was at UT at that time and it was a strange engagement. Ernie of course was probably the mover and shaker but King with Mears? Strange indeed.

I think it had more to do with Grunfeld being from NY and already at TN. Mears did get King to visit UT, then assigned Grunfeld to host him, they immediately clicked and King trusted him. Can't remember where I read it, but King wanted to leave NY but also wanted a friend/player he could trust. Grunfeld was that guy.
