Basilio saying transfer vote will be Thursday.

Curious what, precisely, the vote will cover. At first it sounded like it could be just for a temporary exception for this year. Not sure if it is for that or a permanent change. Even then, I wonder how it would read - just that they are allowed within the SEC as long as the NCAA has already given them a waiver?

You make the decision to trot him out there. As a coach, your job is to put THAT player in the best situation to win.

It may be a minority view, and I really like Jim Chaney. But, I was just frustrated with lower percentage calls on 3rd and short. On 3rd and 3, they put trips right. The ball was on the left hash, and the trips were wide. It appeared that Hyatt was the primary, and he was open, yet it required a 20-25 yard pass across the field. Pruitt mentioned that the WR's were not always in the right spots, and maybe that is one of them, so that's not on the play-call.

But, it's all about probability to convert, and with a QB like JG, you have to give him a better chance.

I am going to say again that Big Jim has to help him a little more on 3rd down. He is certainly earning his money. I just didn't like some of the third down calls, especially on 3rd and short.

I don't need to re-hash it. Watching highlights a second or third time will help in analysis. Chaney knows what he has at QB.

Anyone wonder why we didn't see the toss sweep until the last drive of the game? It was effective even when they were loading up expecting the run. That should have been mixed in more earlier.

I would have liked to see some more misdirection to keep the defense off balance. Even NFL teams are doing alot of it.

Kiffin and Chaney figured out how to help Jonathan Crompton. I didn't really think about it much while watching it live, but I wanted to dig deeper after seeing the third down stat, so I watched more highlights. I would encourage others to do the same when these things are discussed.

That’s a good way to put it, he is what he is, seems to lack touch or anticipation on his throws. Just throws howitzers. I guess there are plays in the playbook for that.

at the risk of starting someting i don't want to...i agree.

the biggest factor for him Saturday night was he didn't turn the ball over. the bad news about the over throws was that ourWR had no chance to catch the ball.

the good news...neither did anyone else.

ande he did complete a swing pass....though i think we tried to drop it lol.

i need to see more from JG. he does need to start making the connection on the down field throws, he needs to be on time with the delivery, and he needs to quit sailing the ball.

if he can improve there, then he goes from what looks like a serviceable qb presently to a pretty damn good one.

i'll put it this way, what JG was able to do Saturda night wasn't bad at all. in essence, he had a "good" game statisically. the issue is what he didn't do....which is what kept the game from being a comfortabel 2+ score win, and provided USCe the opportunity to possibly steal the game late.. they took the ball out of his hands at the most critical time of the game, and were willing to put the game in the ST and Defense's hands. that told me something, at least for that game.

plenty of time to change that perception or narrative tho.... i hope he does, i'm rooting for him. i respect the heck of the kid as a competitor and a tough guy. i just wish he could have a redemption type season and go out with a bang.....win some big games, go to a great bowl game....and change the story on what has been his career so far at UT.

This is a great post and I agree 100%. I will add this:

The biggest reason for optimism is that the one key thing he is missing is making the easy throws. Think about it, he is now getting in the right play, that's what half the qbs can't do. Now he is making the right decisions, something most people playing qb can't do, but a few can. He also makes some tough plays, takes hits, and shakes it off, and then makes some fantastic throws. The last piece is why it is so frustrating to watch him, MAKE THE EASY THROW. I hope this is the last piece in his mental growth. If so, we are going to have a good season. If not, then not so good. Go Vols.

As fans, we generally get so little information on the inner workings of the coaching staff and the squad. This year, the well has been even drier due to COVID. I get that arguing about JG gives us all something to do between the games, but trust the staff. They have more information and more experience than any of us will ever have.

I do absolutely agree with this...they were crashing hard inside. That was my beef with JCs play calling in the game.

While I agree with your idea
on misdirection...the plays JC called had guys running wide open.

If JG is better, we would have hung at least 40+ on them...that is good play calling and bad execution by one position....period.

It almost certainly comes down to them balancing execution issues against game management issues. JG will likely score less points than Shrout, but Shrout may be more likely to make game management mistakes. My guess is they will only move to someone other than JG when it becomes clear they will lose the game if they don't. We don't have to score a certain number of points, just more than our opponent. Eliminating offensive mistakes can be just as important as scoring offensive points.

Today is a good day. I have learned that when a QB throws way over the head of open receivers 8-10 times in a game he doesn't have mechanics issues. Even when it has happened for 3+ seasons, he's good to go because he now sees that they are open for maybe the first time.

Waiting to learn more.

All we have to do is attach his brain to his arm and Wallah! Problem solved.
