Great analysis! I have said my piece on the 3rd and 2 miss to Hyatt. I would really like to be a fly on the wall to hear the coaches discuss that play. It was an across the hash throw on a play where we needed 2 yards.

I thought the throw to Velus in the endzone was sufficient. Only our guy was going to catch it, and the defender was on him. It appeared to me that Velus didn't get a great jump and extension on the ball.

I watched the replay last night. Looking at the play from behind the EZ the defender had a hand on top of Velus' forearm. It was a bang bang play, so hard to get much of a look, so could not tell if the DB was actually holding Velus' arm down, but he was only able to reach up with his right hand. Not willing to say that was the reason he didn't make the catch, but the DB definitely had the left arm.

Gotta keep in mind too we got a former elite DC as our head coach.

He's got a QB starting who in his 5th year at UT has 13 INTs in his entire career. With almost 700 attempts, currently 8th most in school history.
It's pretty bad that Shrout, Maurer, etc. aren't starting. That's why I still think Weinke is at least partially to blame for the very mediocre QB play.

Anyone wonder why we didn't see the toss sweep until the last drive of the game? It was effective even when they were loading up expecting the run. That should have been mixed in more earlier.
You could say we should've ran the sweep more, or you could say that it had been perfectly set up all game. The entire SC defense was ready for Velus to get it on the jet sweep, which we had had plenty of success with the entire game.

Play selection is like menu selection. Taco Tuesday is great for the first month, but eventually Taco Third Tuesday works better.

But you literally said it was Black Sail's theme when it wasn't.

Again...it's the exact same song. Chord progressions do not change just because different groups use different instruments and change the tempo. It is still the Black Sails theme song. If I record a version of Comfortably Numb, and I rearrange it and play it in a vintage swing band style with brass and maybe even a string section, it is still Comfortably Numb, and I would still have to credit the actual songwriter on the album credits, because rearrange it all I want, it is still the same song.

Or maybe Shrout & Maurer aren't that good.

Bailey likely sitting this year no matter what (especially with it being a short season cause COVID). Otherwise I think he would push JG to take that starting job.

Strout's issues are with his recognizing what he is seeing and how to set his offense properly. That is on him more than a coach. Maurer missed much of fall with a hamstring, so got behind.

That was surprising. We are usually very good at adjusting as the game goes on. But...Bobo, if anyone, would know what Pruitt is planning. If he even half-succeeded at freakin Colorado St against Bama, you knew he'd know what to do this time as well.

Drunkwitz will have no idea...kid is out of his league.
Remember Pruitt talked to him about replacing Helton. So there has to be some mutual respect there.

Since the season doesn't count against eligibility, not sure why HB would sit if he can outplay Maurer and Shrout or even JG.

Why would he be sitting out during a free year for everyone. Every freshman can play as many games as the coaches deem necessary and not lose any eligibility this year.

My assumption there is simply using it as more time to get HB ready physically and comfortable with the system. We as fans are frustrated with JG and feel he's overall been a let down. He's not elite, but he's good enough that we can compete and win 8+ games in any given season. I think Pruitt is looking at it big picture more than we are and he sees a QB who can get his guys in the right positions every play and doesn't turn the ball over or take unnecessary risk. I still think as a defensive minded HC that's why JG is starting over Maurer/JT.

Cause I have no doubt Pruitt would be more than happy to run the ball 40 times for 200+ and thump teams 15-0 every week.

For those disappointed in our line

That cannot be accurate. Our line allowing pressure and receivers dropping passes that grazed their finger tips are the only reason that all fans who hate JG have anything to gripe about.

Seriously:

- Kudos to the line, saw legitimate improvement in several aspects despite obviously suffering from the rona disruptions
- Yes, Chaney is pass happy
- No, I don't believe fans hate JG and I find it pretty revealing that's how the pro-JG crowd chooses to portray anyone who disagrees
- Yes, JG did a good job of not turning the ball over.
- The issue with JG is missed opportunities. Seems like a good tough kid with great intentions. He messes up too many drive extending plays. Receivers making perfect catches doesn't constitute good QB'ing.

I don't hate JG. I want him to succeed and on some level even have sympathy for the young man. But I just disagree with the coaches and other fans that believe he brings enough to the table to justify continuing to make him our only option.

We're only 1 game in man, next to zero off season prep really happened this year. Ya return a 5th year senior, and 2 other guys with experience too ahead of him. I just don't see the value in pushing HB out game 1 to take reps when the offense was moving the ball fine and JG wasn't making any major mistakes.

I think a few weeks of practice as the season goes along though Bailey will see live action this year, I just hope it's because he's earned the shot outright and not because JG and the other QBs are hurt or playing that poorly.

Pretty crazy that the vibe appears to be that the titans game is going to be played with one team practicing all week and one not allowed in the facility at all. Wild times boys and girls
