Saturday Scrimmage Notes

No real details on how JG is looking. Maybe decent line play will be the difference for him.

Go Vols!
I noticed that too. No mention of our starting QB , only JT Shrout. Wonder who threw the pass Flowers intercepted.

I'm curious about that too. Looks like its JG and shrout at 1 and 2. What I'm more curious about is if maurer gets qb3 or bailey. Have a feeling bailey gets it and maurer is the odd man out. If that happens and stays that way all season and Salter comes here, I dont see Maurer sticking around.

I was trolling you about BM being so far down the depth chart. I was NOT trying to get some sort of information out of you.
Its all in good fun.
Yeah but the only way to legitimately and fully answer those types of questions I have to betray someone’s trust and I’m not willing to do that.

probably just isnt performing as well as the others... like everyone is reporting. We will see soon enough. If JG struggles and the other qbs play ahead of maurer, that's confirmation that he couldn't beat them out. Only time will tell. Hope he does well if called upon tho.

Well you gotta take into consideration that you’re getting your info from people that are not allowed to view what’s important. They get warm ups and routes on air. They don’t see the 11-11 or 7-7 portion of practice. And as I’ve said before Maurer is not a “routes on air” qb. Put a corner on the receiver and his accuracy improves because he reads the corners positioning. De1conley evidently has gotten to see those portions of practice and called out Austin for lying not long ago and said Maurer was our best option. Pruitt himself said today that the backup roles were not determined yet. So everyone acting like they know where any of them will fall is simply opinion based on reports from journalists who “slant” the truth. I witnessed it myself last year but I was FOS , remember?

Never disappeared and BM never passed JG. He was never the guy. He wasn't the permanent starter or future of the program.

He was a hail mary that fell incomplete.

So it was all a big conspiracy to hold down one random high school qb from Fl?

Nah buddy. They all were evaluated on camp and season performances.

BM was not as talented as Salter, JG, HB etc were coming out.

He has potential though. He just has to work harder than the more naturally talented and more developed guys.

Right now he has a few guys to pass up. And then Salter is on the way. Its going to be a hard road to start another game at UT.
I’ve said I’m not going to engage you anymore (who knows how long that lasts?) and I’m going to hold to it. However I will tell you a true story that reminds me of you and your boy.

About 10 years ago I had another qb that I had been coaching for a couple of years at the time. He and Brian were both in the same age group and were actually competitors in the fall for opposing teams. After year 2 his father decided he no longer liked the way I coached his son. I understood because I’m known to coach “outside the book” and don’t believe in “limits” of what a kid can do due to his age.

It was already determined that I would no longer coach his son but he decided it was a good idea to call me on my personal phone and apologize for his outburst later that day. Within that conversation he used Brian as a measuring stick for his boy to compare. I didn’t take well to the comparison because I don’t like comparing kids but I listened. His statement was “Brian is not a qb. He’s just an athlete that can throw.” “His mechanics are garbage and you allow it” “My boy IS a real qb and he’s better than Brian will ever be.” After his apology mixed with criticism I informed him that I would continue to coach his son for the remainder of that year because of his apology but due to his comparing and criticism he was no longer welcome the following year and beyond.

The effects of that day wouldn’t be felt for years to come but they did. And quite harshly. Brian didn’t have a single offer that wasn’t D1. The other qb just didn’t get a single offer until late his senior year where committed on the spot to a D2 school in Florida. The ironic part of the story is this this qbs family was die hard Tennessee fans and always have been (unknown by me at the time). So unless they stopped watching, as a result of that day they get to watch Brian take the snaps that they so confidently thought belonged to their son.

You remind me of this father. You obviously have no idea how to read potential and your hate for a KID is absolutely disgusting. That’s why I have no respect for you and if you don’t change your ways, karma is going to give you a reality check just like that guy. GROW UP.

Dude there was no conspiracy against his ranking. He was deemed not as talented as our other qbs by actual professionals. No hate. Literally just facts.

He has potential. Maybe that just isn't enough at a place like UT.

You’re misusing the word “conspiracy”. It means two or more people making a plan THEN carrying it out. It’s not a conspiracy to rank a kid lower on a lack of evaluation due to the school he played for. That’s simply just not doing your job that you’re so trusted to do. By your logic you’re saying that Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Pat Mahommes and Lamar Jackson are not as talented as Mark Sanchez and Matt Leinert. It’s the EXACT SAME ARGUMENT you’re using against Maurer so you can’t deny it. You want to trust them? Go ahead. I’ll stick to ACTUAL evaluation and stick to my word that Maurer is the most talented qb in the room. Ranking means chit coming from people that clearly know about as much about the position as you do.

Actually 247 after the elite 11 siad he was in line for a 4rlth star and next evaluation...but that never came...but he was a 4 star on espn..247 even have him projected as a power 5 starter....so it seems like his "ranking" slipped thru the cracks

If only they had these things called camps and tournaments that they look at and evaluate so playing at a certain high school doesn't matter.

Wait. They do? Mindblown.

Like I said they went to the same events. JG, HB and Salter have all been evaluated to be more talented with more potential.

Composite three star. I said he has potential. He does.

We also have players with more potential at the same spot.

This is going to sting a little K.

But are you talking about camps such as the Elite 11 and The Opening which are known around the world as the most prestigious qb camps in existence? The same camp that he faced the the highest ranked defenders around the country and placed 5th among highly ranked 4 and 5* qbs as the only 3* athlete overall? That argument just backfired right in your face because HB placed 11th. What’s that say about your theory now?

He never got his 4th star because the update didn’t occur until Feb. and he signed in Jan. But yes you’re correct, he was supposed to be a 4* after his senior year of Hs from what I’ve heard around the grapevine.

I think we can all agree that if maurer plays, we want him to light it up.

Not all of us evidently
IF he play i hope he plays as good asyou say he is. If so we will win the SEC.

K-Town and Pulaski are Vol fans first.

Yep

Then explain KTowns disappearance last year when Maurer got the nod and looked good vs UGA. He seems to get really “busy” at the most convenient times.

Dude he had a good quarter. I'm sorry I didn't post for a few days after his one shining moment.

I don't post each day or even week. I have went months without posting as well. I have a bunch of other stuff going on but I do enjoy talking Vols.

We will see how much you post when he either graduates or transfers.

And you were relatively silent when Maurer tried his piece at raising cranium crops against Mississippi State. Big difference is they’ve been on this board dating back many qb’s pre-JG.

I’ve never been silent. I thought he played a hell of a game outside of his mistakes vs MSU. I personally think the only times he’s looked “bad” was vs UF and the first two drives of UK. Other than that he’s proved my points for me.

You keep saying “one good “quarter” and that must have been one HELL of a quarter then. He passed for over 200 yards by halftime dude!
