Lane Kiffin (Head football coach of the University of Tennessee)

I know one reason that Kiffin will succeed here at Tennessee. You may of heard of him....

ERIC BERRY......:rock::rock:

Has kelley ever recruited down south??? Don't think so Kiffin would bring on Coach O and we would have 2 of the best recruiters in the business that would go head to head with the Sabans, Meyers, and Richts of the world no more battling UNC,VA tech, and Tulsa's of the world

Kelly's original starting QB, Grutza is from KY. He had ~9 others from the South as well, non-contributors though from what I could find.

I'll be happy with Kelly or Kiffin, but leaning towards Kiffin if he brings Coach O with him. Those 2 would be able to stock up talent for the next guy if they fall through.

That's one really good thing about Kiffin. Even if he failed, or left for another job in the near future, he'd leave the next coach quite an arsenal. You could say the same for Butch Davis.

Not trying to support any one here but you could also say that about Phil. At least on one side of the ball.:whistling::dunno:

I don't like Lane Kiffin either and here's why. First off his biggest claim to fame has been to be hired by Al Davis for another job which he was clearly not ready for. Talk all you want about what he had to work with. He knew that coming into the job and thought he could succeed, he didn't. Pete Carroll thought so little of him, that he wouldn't even trust him with the play-calling at USC. Sarkisian had to agree and Carroll retained veto power (which is not uncommon, but should be noted.) In addition, while USC had success with Kiffin as OC, they took a step back compared to what Norm Chow was doing prior to leaving who, speaking of, has never been very glowing when talking about the talents of his former WR coach. I admit even though some won't that the guy is a stellar recruiter. In fact, I think that and his pedigree is what got him the opportunities he has had. He is young, he has very little experience especially when compared to Mark Richt and Stoops when they were handed their respective teams so I think that comparison is ridiculous.

Also, and I know Al Davis is bat crazy, but the way Kiffin handled the whole deal with Oakland and the subsequent revelations by Davis has me real concerned about what kind of dude we would be hiring.

As some have said, there are risks with all of the current prospects for the job, I just feel that the risks with Kiffin are much greater.

Ladies and Gentlemen.........I think we are about to make a big mistake.

I have nothing against Lane, I think one day he will make a fine CF coach. But this man is not ready.....especially for a place like UT.

I'm going to get blasted for this, but I'd rather had stayed with PF than chose Kiffin. Kiffin, like Shula, is not ready for SEC football.

Even if that is true, it is time for new blood....something to get excited about for the team and the fan base. If our next HC falls flat it doesn't mean firing Phil was not the right thing to do. It is time to move on, if we have to endure bad seasons with the new HC, it will still be better than suffering through with Fulmer. People have little interest in seeing us underachieve or how many Police reports are written each week. New blood will give us hope for the best without a long history with Phil knowing we are going to get out coached by the better coaches in the conference. DOING NOTHING IS WORSE THAN HIRING THE WRONG COACH. Besides that, what do you think Phil would do in the next couple of years even with a highly ranked recruiting class. Every time we get some stud recruits they don't shine till they are juniors or something, especially on offense. He and or the staff either can't coach em up or won't play them...... unless they're Eric Berry like and absolutely can't miss.

Kiffin can recruit and he did have the Raiders playing better, so there is hope...which is something we truly haven't had in a long time. Besides that, Kiffin could bring some top assistance's which is where most of the actual coaching comes from anyway.

I'd rather have an unproven Kiffin than the overrated Leach or Kelly, especially if he brings his dad or Orgeron as D-coordinator.

Why would someone on UF or Bama's staff take a lateral move to UT? There would have to be a lot more money involved or a new title.

He is bringing in Orgeron and his brother in law... the recruiting coordinator at South Carolina.

I read this about Lane on the main rivals board. Anyone know if his in-law is really the recruiting coord at SoCar?

If this happens and we can pull off 8 wins next year (look at the schedule, it's possible), We will have a top 5 recruiting class in 2010.

Smartest post on this thread.
Yep . . . On some level everybody needs to realize that there's more to this than resume and past records. Hamilton is actually interviewing these people and evaluating them on other criteria. Based on the Pearl hire, I think it's safe to defer to him when choosing a leader.

Kelly isn't a proven recuiter. Kiffin is. Shadow of a doubt.

We just fired a great reruiter. We need a coach. Kelly has proven many times over he is a winner as a HC. Kiffen has proven nothing as a HC. Not saying i'm adverse to Kiffen but Kiffen is a lot riskier hire. Just because you can recruit doesn't mean you can win. Besides, how do you know he could bring this so called "All-Star" staff? What happens if his dad or O doesn't want to come? What then? You people make NO sense.

They'd have all of that figured out before they hired Kiffin in the first place.
