The 2020 season is / will be a "one off". Not since WW2 has college football seen anything like this. Not even the aftermath of Katrina, for those of us in the South. With the B10 and PAC12 cancelling the entire season, not to mention other non-P5 conferences, it's not like a 5-5 record this year (just as an example, but have you seen who we play?) will scare off any 2021 talent.
UT started the 2019 season by losing to Georgia State and BYU. At home. Still managed to haul in a very solid class. Yes, at some point this staff will need to win big games, but my guess would be that the 2020 season won't be a litmus test for any program or coaching staff out there. So you make lemonade out of the lemons, and set your sights on 2021. UT can still have a good year, but think about next year when HB, Cade (hopefully), and Gibbs (hopefully) step into a roster that, at that point, should be brimming with talent.
Sometimes life sucks. So it goes with the 2020 college football season. Unless these young men totally screw the pooch by mimicking the NFL (in which case all bets are off), then 2021 can be the year that UT Football....finally, thank the Lord...turned the corner.
But I've been wrong before, a lot, so we'll see.
Go Vols.
I hope you’re right. My fear is that recruits are still going to judge the coaching staff on this season simply b/c their lives don’t stop. Rising seniors that want to play for a contender won’t consider us if we go 5-5. Not doing well this year means we are another year removed from our last East win in 07 and another year that Bama, UGA, and UF extend their winning streaks on us. The ray of hope is having UF in Dec gives HB or JT enough time to develop and take the reigns if need be.
This. The youngsters will learn from him, hopefully.
Again, 2020 will be an "asterisk" season, no matter what. I'd rather go 5-5 this year and be loaded for bear in '21 than go all-in for a season that will end up being an answer to a question in a future version of Trivial Pursuit.
This staff has proven they can recruit top talent. Our 2020 record won't have much influence either way on that. This is a chance, what with everyone getting an extra year of eligibility, to fill in gaps and recruit over the 3-star talent. I'd expect this staff to deliver on all points.

Yet you responded to it??I will pretend I didn't read this comment![]()
I think his response is directed at the poster's statement that football shouldn't be played this year, not about Gibbs decision..Yet you responded to it??
It's a simple situation, in that this whole season is an open experiment. Gibbs could play his way into some NFL money this year and then leave. Or he could get really sick. Either one is HIS choice. He's lost someone to this virus. More than likely his family is worried about him...
not that hard to understand![]()
Some here had him as a starter at WR.

Geeze. Real really weird career move at this juncture for this kid. The chances of him ever actually contributing anything to us seems to be slipping away
