Gibbs sitting out the season

he doesn’t lose a year so it’s fine. Stays on team on the practice squad and contributes

This. The youngsters will learn from him, hopefully.

Again, 2020 will be an "asterisk" season, no matter what. I'd rather go 5-5 this year and be loaded for bear in '21 than go all-in for a season that will end up being an answer to a question in a future version of Trivial Pursuit.

This staff has proven they can recruit top talent. Our 2020 record won't have much influence either way on that. This is a chance, what with everyone getting an extra year of eligibility, to fill in gaps and recruit over the 3-star talent. I'd expect this staff to deliver on all points.

Go Vols.

How many players? Any indicators?

I just don’t understand this mess. Are they forcing programs to test all of their players? I know for a fact there are a lot of people who have it in the general public and don’t even know it/don’t get tested. At this point, if I got sick, idk if I would even get a covid test unless my sickness was so severe it sends me to the hospital and I don’t have a choice. Do these players/programs have a choice?

I'd rather go 13-0 this year (10 regular season wins, then Atlanta, then the two playoff games).

And still be loaded for bear in '21.

Why would any Vol fan wish for anything less? :)

Geeze. Real really weird career move at this juncture for this kid. The chances of him ever actually contributing anything to us seems to be slipping away

"look Deangelo, we've got JP and BJ as seniors probably graduating after this year. we need to see RK, MW and JH on the field too. you might want to take a year off and work on academics and such and make a big push in '21." CJP

It sucks but with Palmer and B. Johnson graduating, it will help anchor our depth going forward along with the 5 Freshman.

I really thought he was going to be our best WR this season though.

Because that simply is not going to happen. Best to deal with reality, rather than risk a freshman QB (or an academically challenged DB) on an impossible dream.

I'm not a pessimist, but I do try to be the absence of bulls**t that we all wish to see in the world around us.

Go Vols.

This staff won’t be able to keep recruiting elite talent if they don’t start winning some big games. After a few years of mediocre seasons top athletes won’t want to play for those coaches.

Well the Big10 is talking about starting the season now after November 3rd/thanksgiving lol.. go you do the math!!!

There is a pretty big gap between Nov 3rd and Thanksgiving. So are they talking about starting right after the election, or a few weeks later after Thanksgiving, or the original plan of January?
When Covid is still here and still ravaging the US after the election will you admit maybe you were wrong about this? Probably not

The 2020 season is / will be a "one off". Not since WW2 has college football seen anything like this. Not even the aftermath of Katrina, for those of us in the South. With the B10 and PAC12 cancelling the entire season, not to mention other non-P5 conferences, it's not like a 5-5 record this year (just as an example, but have you seen who we play?) will scare off any 2021 talent.

UT started the 2019 season by losing to Georgia State and BYU. At home. Still managed to haul in a very solid class. Yes, at some point this staff will need to win big games, but my guess would be that the 2020 season won't be a litmus test for any program or coaching staff out there. So you make lemonade out of the lemons, and set your sights on 2021. UT can still have a good year, but think about next year when HB, Cade (hopefully), and Gibbs (hopefully) step into a roster that, at that point, should be brimming with talent.

Sometimes life sucks. So it goes with the 2020 college football season. Unless these young men totally screw the pooch by mimicking the NFL (in which case all bets are off), then 2021 can be the year that UT Football....finally, thank the Lord...turned the corner.

But I've been wrong before, a lot, so we'll see.

Go Vols.

What am I wrong about. All I simply said is the Big10 is talking about starting on thanksgiving which is after November 3rd!!! And yes the virus will still be here but will be less talked about than it has been as it already is starting to be talked about less than months ago!!!
